I think slight over confidence they would be a premier league club. Perfectly highlighted by this quote dated 14/02/11...
Devereux Road, which was north of Nightingale Lane so when we came out of Clapham South tube I turned left and you turned right. I moved there in 1977. I moved from Gospel Oak to Hampstead Garden Suburb in 1976. I'd split up with my girlfriend and the master plan was to go somewhere quiet for the final year of studying for my degree but all that happened was I travelled further. I remember one of the last nights there. The guy who turned up to take my room suggested we go for a few drinks and on the way back from the pub we heard some noise from a part at a big house so we walked inside. When anybody asked this guy who he knew at the party he made up some name and people just gave him a funny look. When I got asked I said: "I don't know anybody and I was walking past the house and decided to drop in" which seemed to go down a lot better.
It appears that contact was made by his agent directly to City - hence why City knew about and triggered the release clause. My spirits are very high as always. We should be gutted for Austin more than ourselves. We can find a replacement but will Austin ever get a PL chance again ? Maybe next summer we could get him on a FAT assuming that he has another good final season with Burnley.
He has also failed our medical now. The stress test proved too much for him. He FLAKED out. We were looking at him but Lesta have taken us to The Cleaners over his wages. So it says - but never say never. 3. Slim - Very Slim and No.!!!
He's like Pienaar, got a big money move from a club he was doing really well at, then seemed to fall apart as soon as he got to Spurs.
A few Blackburn fans are saying that Rhodes will be going before the transfer window closes. TWT on that as always. Blackburn need to reduce the wage bill and they dont have many options to do that. Martin Olssen left and signed for Norwich yesterday as a FAT.
The Allams said we would get a marquee player or 2 and with the money that Bruce has spent so far - or Not as the case is at the moment i would not rule it out at all. As for the wages - Rhodes may well take a cut for the PL.
Why wouldn't he? If his knee is sorted and he comes back as good as he was then I can't see why he wouldn't get his chance in the PL, he's only 24 not 34.
I still think we're interested Hooper. I just think we wont put another bid in/up our bid. I'd imagine we're leaving our 4 million bid on the table hoping Celtic buckle while we start to look at other targets.
To land both Rhodes(£8m) and Jenas(free) for say £8m in total would be great business for us. Looking at the Jenas transfer fees that clubs have paid for him in the past. approx £14m at least. Newcastle £5m from Forest Tottenham £7m from Newcastle DQpr £?m undisclosed fee to Tottenham.
I agree. I think the reports have misinterpreted Bruce's comments. He said we won't increase our offer (it seems to be the best on the Celtic table at the moment anyway).
Very few players starting the final year of there contracts should ever go for more than £4m. Certainly not the likes of Gary Hooper.
