My memory says it was Ardilles we wanted, Villa was not in the same class, but played like a British footballer so as it turned out he was a success.

Who's memory is right on this?

And don't say me, me! let's find some facts on this.

I'm pretty sure that burky went to sign Ossie who in turn suggested he sign Ricky as well.
if I remember rightly, the Sheffield Utd manager at the time wanted ossie but his club wouldn't pay up so he told Burky of the possible deal.

Yes, Harry Haslam if memory serves.

And yes, Ardiles was the Spurs target with Villa the added bonus.

Thanks THFC, I couldn't remember the name of the manager.

They were good old days, all the excitement etc then we were stuffed 4-1 on their home debuts!!!!

Didn't Sheffield Utd lead the way with Argentinian signings, bringing in Alex Sabella?

And another Yorkie in Burkinshaw followed suit. "Tha'll luv it in England lad - warm beer, whippets and power cuts." They must have an inventive Spanish interpreter.

    Yup...

If we can use that as our nucleus with Livermore, Holtby and Gylfi as subs then we will do ok.
Bale as winger come striker in a 4-3-3 or Second striker / trequartista in a 4-2-3-1 / 4-4-1-1

What's a whippet in, erm, English? In American English it's a cylinder of nitrous oxide. (I'm assuming you're not talking about the dog.)
