How about Michel Platini & the stupid amounts of money that are spent on players & the huge salaries that they're on.

CORNERS the reason they don't beat the first man isn't because they haven't got the strength to kick it that far, it's because they are trying to whip the ball in at a perfect height and trajectory for the attackers, much better then a nice floater that is easy to defend. If you'd played football you would know that!

As a stupid Yank still learning the game, let me chime in with something I've yet to understand. Why not make the player who was fouled take the PK? Or is it wide open so folks like Frank f'in Lampard can pad his goal totals?

Because each team has a player who is designated the penalty taker because they score them more consistently than the rest of the team. Look at Balotelli - he is yet to miss a penalty in his career, so nobody is going to deny him taking a penalty if his team are awarded one.

Also, what if it wasn't a foul, and it was handball?

    Free kicks are the same.

(Btw, Lampard has scored 48 penalties for Chelsea across 12 years, which is under 25% of his total goals for them. So it isn't really padding it out that much over that amount of time, considering he is a midfielder)

Whats wrong with the 'he was going for the ball' one - perfectly acceptable to say that if you think it was a fair but rough tackle.

    I'd probably put **** policing a No.1.

No reflection on coppers, just on the clueless twats who tell them what to do.

A striker is okay if he rarely scored,as long as he puts in a good shift.

Did you know that in the first few seasons of the Football League that the player taking the pen had to be blindfolded whilst taking the penalty?

It used to be also seen as unsporting to even take a penalty (sometimes with games held up for ages or even abandoned with a team's refusal to take one), to score could actually result in a booking or a fine.

Why not have a designated kicker who comes off the bench just to take the penalties.Perhaps he can wear a helmet and body armour so we can instantly recognise him .Ir has that already been done in another sport?

Ha. I do play football, but that's a bit irrelevant.

What you said makes perfect sense, but it's still frustrating seeing corner takers hit the first man every time.

Rather than 'why not' I will reverse your question: Why do that?

"He's a striker, and his job is to score goals."

Think I must be in the minority that actually like Robbie Savage and agree with a lot of things he says.
