we (safc) seem to be doing it differrent to other clubs now, instead of going for mostly second rate targets like before were now going for the top boys at reasonable fees, i think its all down to ellis short and de fanti i dont know too much about some of our new signings and alleged targets but i bet de fanti does right down to what they have for breakfast, we will have a whole new team and spirit this coming season there will probably be some mistakes along the way but it wont be boring i for one cant wait for the kick off, i think there wont be a problem with gelling cos that to me is just an excuse for not doing their job, hope im right on this one.

So they are top boys but not many of us know anything about them?

think I will wait till Christmas to see if they are top or not. (individually they may be better, but collectively they could be worse, remember its a team game, and i cant think of any team getting so many new players in and it ever being a success from the start)

Anyone remember when the last time we got a load of new players at once? Aye, Russell Anderson, Ross Wallace, Paul McShane, Rade Prica, Toby Hysen, Keiran Richardson, Bardsley...

I know what kinda players I would rather be getting! We are on a different level now, no matter what happens, we are taking that risk we need to take before we slip back into nothingness. How lucky are we that we have Di Fanti, an agent who has contacts, and scouts who have found some of the best players? And most of all, a Chairman with balls and guts to take that risk. Ashely would never do that. He appointed JFK to try and save face, and keep up with us. Pardew has no clue, and now by all accounts they are spending a wedge on a GK, who they don't really need.

Forza Ellis! And Forza SAFC! And to top it off, the girl that Im getting cosy with is Italian, so now you can guess which is my fave country! Might even be enough to forgive them for THAT match in the 2006 World Cup against Australia...

I'm not, it could take till christmas for them to settle as a team. 2nd half of the season could be a complete contrast. I'll judge about at the end of the season I won't be a resident doom monger in the meantime. Mostly because it's a boring repetitive attitude that forces the same view on every single topic regardless of it's content.

Can't say I'm looking forward to the first 6 months of sceptics. I'm prepared to Give Paolo years to get this right myself but I get a feeling a lot won't

Consistant teams need consistant managers... PDC is learning how his trade and has an amazing attitude towards work ethic, pride and respect for those that actually pay his and the players wages (the fans), as a club we are learning a new way of approaching recruitment and no doubt a new playing style.. lets learn together and take the rough with the smooth. Short controls the purse strings but ultimately we control the club.. ie if we're having a rough spell and the gates drop and those who do attend are calling for PDC's head then short doesnt have a choice but to get rid. So we all need to avoid knee jerk reactions and remember that fergie took years to get it right and win anything with United. We have the inferstructure to succeed all the pieces of the jigsaw are there we need to support the guy trying to put it together.

I could answer this in so many different ways.

You are pre-pared to write of a season or at least half a season, that's your perogative.

It may well become good, and afer the last two days, i'm more convinced it will. The signing of the American, has opened my eyes up a lot more, i like Mr Shorts plan, it business.

I think we'll gel quickly, what I mean is I'm prepared to stick to the plan even if we don't have a good season. We've finally have a setup worth remaining patient for. I'm not prepared to write the season of as such, I'm just not going to tell the experts how to do their jobs if it transpires we have a mare of a season.

Yes I really do believe we control the club.. cause we control whether we turn up and pay the ticket price. If attendance drops and revenue isnt coming in then the board have to react. And generally speaking results and performance is what dictate gates.. its called voting with your feet. Its what cost bruce and mon and plenty of other managers at plenty of other clubs. The board have to keep the fans onside to keep the money coming in.

    Really?

Whilst the fans are important, their revenue is fairly insignificant to the income of a club.

But a club needs fans for many other reasons, you can't sell sponsorship to major companies if the ground is empty, catch 22.

I wasnt just meaning revenue from gates I meant revenue full stop cause like you said you can't sell sponsorship to a club without a fan base. I should have been clearer.. lesson learnt lol

Supposedly we are after Napoli's Lorenzo Insigne now aswell...

    @SAFCsource
Sunderland are willing to spend big on Insigne but he wants to stay at Napoli. http://bit.ly/12hwZ1z ‪#‎SAFC‬

    Fooking hell.

You can absolutely sell sponsorship with no fans, as a Premier League club.

There is a reason why only one side of the pitch has electronic, constantly changing boards, and that is because the TV cameras look at them, not 18,000 or so fans in the East Stand.

Aye, but there will be times when the cameras have to pan around, and it's empty...

But i do agree, it's the prem brand that sells, not the fans, and people watching across the globe only associate with the players they know, not the club.
