Anyone on here going to be watching the womens Euros?

I just discovered that i'll be in Sweden when the semis are on, so i've got tickets to both.

Football on holiday, i'm stupidly excited about it.

I'll grow up one day... :)

In answer to your question, I'm sure I'll watch some. I think if I was in Sweden at that time, I'd be looking at European qualifiers (Goteborg, Hacken and Elfsborg all in action around that time). I must be a chauvinist pig. :(

(i am joking before the PC brigade pipes up - its a reference to the tennis)

Yes, I'll be watching - hadn't watched much before The Olympics and was pretty amazed at the standard and the open style of play.

At least the womens side played as a team, unlike their male counterparts who are a collection of individuals

Stuart Pearce was the manager, so I blame the youngest players. <ok>

1-0 up in Gibraltar by the way

Thoroughly enjoyed that - no simulation, no mouthing off at the ref, a bare minimum of cynical fouls, two cracking goals and two penalty saves.

    Next!

A good game last night. You're right Tewkes - the absence of cynicism was refreshing

Something tells me that gallivanting round the USA will be better than Womens Euros!

Just got back frpm the Dominican Republic, with a vague feeling that if my summer holidays are over, football must be just around the corner. However, the ashes are on, Murray has won Wimbledon, and Kent are getting stuffed by everyone except Netherlands, so it must still be summer. I can rouse myself to check the results of the friendlies, and I'm off and on the Transfer thread like a goodun to see if we've signed someone (anyone!!) yet, but the football gene needs a time of rest.

I am hurt, Ken. You visited my manor and didn't say "hello". I could have shown you parts of the Dominican Republic which would make your hair (or other body parts) stand on end. I could even have taken you to a soccer match because I bet you didn't watch one while here.

Were you in the hotel recently reported in the Daily Mail for turds in the swimming pool and the manager threatening the guests who complained?

I'm getting quite excited at the thought of this game tonight - or it could be the thought of the King Prawn Bhuna I've got lined up for half-time...

The most exciting thing about the game last night was the German manager. <devil>

Eddie, I had no idea, and apologise unreservedly! I had no idea you had such a fine gaff. Whereabouts do you actually live? we were in Bavaro Playa, which was nice, as we barely left the hotel complex. The one time we did (doctors visit!), Mrs Shabby's hair was very much on end. Does'nt seem as if much of the money we spent on the vacation gets out of the hotel to the locals. Anyway, you've piqued my interest. What do you do out there in tropical Paradise? Next time I'm there, you'll be the first to know, and if you can't find live football, a bar with cold beer and Charlton v Barnsley live on TV would be fine!!

Last night the Netherlands were tactically spot on - stop the Germans and play on the counter.

Unfortunately it resulted in a scrappy game.

Just kidding, Ken. As I suspected, you were staying in the SE of the country while I live in Puerto Plata the NW. Only 270 miles away but a long day's travel given the roads in this backward place. There is a hotel complex in Puerto Plata but it is very much run down as is the area generally since most tourists now go where you went.

As you say, few leave the hotel area and that is the idea, to keep all the spending on campus. There isn't too much to see outside anyway in that part of the island. A bit more Wild West where I live. Not the place for a family holiday but great for single guys!

I am retired and stuck here for the indefinite future trying to recoup money I lost in a bad land deal. I will be missing a big slice of the season. Thanks goodness for not606 and Charlton Player.

Soccer is almost unknown to Dominicans (although they are brilliant at baseball) but most of my friends here are Haitian and they are crazy for it.

I got talking to an electrician one of the many times he had to fix stuff in our room, and he raved about Dominican baseball. Apparently, the best players in the States are all from the DR. He said they play cricket in Santa Domingo, but hey, I'm a Kent fan so I don't do cricket at the momento. Like you, I'm living abroad and relying on 606 for a talk about the more important aspcts of football (like whether Ceddy should sign a new contract) as the Spanish love of football does'nt extend down to Charlton playing Millwall. Still, when I moved here, it was a case of trying to get a signal on the BBC World Service and hope they mention the Charlton score, and forget midweek matches, so all hail the internet.
Quick BBC story from a few years back. Saturday afternoon, and prior to night work in the bar, I ran a hot bath, set the BBC radio up and settled in for 45 minutes of commentary of Arsenal v Everton. They mentioned the Addicks were 1-0 down at Nottm Forset at half time, but I figured a goal was within us to recover, so I sat on teneterhooks. There were regular goals at Crewe, Southend, Derby, every bloody match except the big one at the City Ground, and as the full time scores rained in, I accepted we might have been beaten. Come the final score parade, and up comes......Nottingham forest 5 Charlton Athletic 2!!!!!
Six goals in the second half and we did'nt get a mention.
And they wonder why Charlton fans are a bit pessimistic at times ;-)
