I could be wrong but I am more than likely correct. If the Sun wrote a ridiculous foundationless article in the morning about Cazorla joing Spurs on a free transfer, everybody would immediately dismiss it even though there is the slightest of possibilities it could happen. So when it comes to a quote with no source or credibility, it should be treated likewise
No, there is no credible source so anybody could have made the quote up. There is a very big chance that it is fake, so I am far more likely to be correct
That is only your opinion but i'm glad you've backtracked from saying it's definitely a fake quote to accepting it could well be true. Do you agree that Bergkamp once made a quote "Behind every pass there is a thought" or very similar wording ?
Quotes are all about context. If the words themselves are what is pertinent (say in making a point) then the source is irrelevant. If however the quote is being used specifically for the person saying it than the validitity of the quote can definitely be called into question.
I've tried to point that out too many times in this thread. Generally speaking a quote that is being used simply because of who said it, to win an argument, isn't worth a whole lot.
You can get a "Philosophy Football" tee shirt with the quote on it and the quote is attributed to Bergkamp http://www.philosophyfootball.com/quotations.php
Probably used the wrong emotion on my Pires comment. I used a and it should have been a . I was just being contrary.
You really don't get it. I still don't understand how you can use the words true and false with a quote, and relate it to the subject of the quote. A true quote only means that the source is correct, it doesn't mean that they were not talking bollocks, were not drunk, were not taken out of context, or were not any more qualified to speak on the subject matter than anyone else. A false quote only means that the source was wrong, it doesn't mean that the actual words spoken are wrong. The only time a source and a quote correlate in trueness or falseness, is if you hope to lend weight to an argument by saying, well Bergkamp thinks this, so you should too. I don't think that people really care what even experts think these days, and in this case, why Dennis Bergkamp should be considered an expert on supporting a club is beyond me. As a player he had to support whichever club he played for, so I doubt he is qualified to comment.
Santi Cazorla: "I only joined Arsenal because Tottenham would not buy me. It is my dream to play in lily white for AVB. I hope Tottenham will make a bid for me this Summer and that Arsenal allow me to follow my dream." Just heard about this quote. Wonder if there is any truth to it
