Strange one with Tom Hingley and the Carpets. His new band is Tom Hingley and the Lovers, who happen to play quite a lot of Inspiral Carpet songs. They were on tour last year where the set was mostly the second album 'The Beast Inside'. Me son went to that one in Newcastle. Then, in March, I had the pleasure of seeing the Inspiral Carpets in Newcastle. The frontman was the original singer before they had any success. The set was the first album 'Life' with a few like Saturn 5 etc. I thought they were good, but the missus would tell you otherwise. My mate has seen both and he reckons that Tom Hingley and the Lovers are the better of the two. The Lovers are playing in Saltburn tonight (£10 ticket). Confused? I am.
