I don't mean a goal scorer, strictly (although in Arsenal's case I think that is really what we are lacking). I mean a world class talent and go to guy that can win a game by himself, like RVP did for us, and before that, Fabregas. Juve's go to guys are Pirlo and Vidal, I think we are lacking a player of that stature in our squad.

I think Cazorla fits the bill, but you'd rather have two than just the one as you say. Juve's defensive record is enviable also.

I think you started off in a strong place and you have slowly meandered into not being happy unless we sign Messi or Ronaldo.

If Giroud is good enough to be a backup then he is good enough to be a starter. Our team last year scored only one goal less than the Invincibles did the season they went unbeaten. As someone mentioned Juventus used a scoring by committee approach last year as well.

It isn't the fact that you are criticising Giroud, it is that you are dismissing our chances of doing anything unless we sign a player of Higuain's quality up front. No one disputes that it would be better if we got Higuan, but if for some reason we can't sign someone like that, then Giroud/Podolski are a lot better than most of the has-beens and never-wases out there.

If we do not sign a player of Higuain's quality, we will not finish in the top 4, never mind compete for trophies.

We finished in the top 4 without Higuain last season.

That was last season. We need a player of his quality if we want to finish top 4 again. We need 3 players of his quality if we want to compete for trophies.

If £30m for Suarez is derisory, and he's as good as Higuain, then unless Wenger can pull some miracles out of the bag then Arsenal can't compete for trophies next season.

    Suarez - £40M
    Higauin - £25M
    Fellaini - £22M
    Julio Cesar - £3M

That is £90M spent before considering player sales.

Actually, our run in was almost title winning form, so the players we have could quite easily finish in the top 4 again. I want us to sign some quality additions, but your speculations are just that - and have little bearing on reality <ok>

Sure thing buddy. Here's the one you sent yesterday: "Idiot. Look at all his posts rather than one in isolation."

And here's the one you sent earlier this year: "are you ******ed or just a twat?"

Please let me know what literacy issues you think I have. When you're done, look up irony in the dictionary. <ok>

Oh, and try attacking your fellow Arsenal fans less...

Nothing worse than some guy hiding behind a keyboard and abusing people. It would be interesting to see how old these guys really are and if they would do something in real life, face to face.

I have to laugh at your crying about being called an idiot LOLZ!!! Sweet precious boy xx

I don't recall the circumstances of the earlier one and the latest one is self explanatory (there goes that literacy deficiency thing of yours again). I do note you fail to mention that I have also given you countless thumbs up over the last few months, but then that little fact wouldn't support your cause would it? :p

Another tip for you. You look a little dumb when you cry about being insulted on the internet and insult the person who made you cry in the very same message.

I have no intention of giving your pity party further oxygen, so don't bother trying to keep it going. Just take a deep breath and move on. The pain will diminish with time :)

p.s. Lazarus, you do make me laugh. I am 13 & 3/4 and got my 1st pubic hair last month :)

Ok thanks for that. Can you keep your spats to PM please. Nobody really wants to see this thread descend into an all out fight I'm sure <ok>

Anyway, getting back to the thread. I think we need a striker, in the mould of Higuain or Suarez to be able to challenge for trophies, but I think the squad we have would still be able to get top 4. But the point is that we need to be pushing on from where we left off last season, not trying to replicate it.

I don't know who started it, but personally I can endure an insult or two within a post on the subject being discussed, but I hate it when people start devoting entire posts to flaming another poster. It derails the thread. So I'm not entirely unhappy that he/you took it to PMs.

So in order not to be accused of being a hypocrite.

I don't think that there is ANY chance that we will go into the season without a couple more significant signings, but even if we did it is a new year, new opposition, new form. I don't think any of us know what will happen next year. There are major changes at all of the top teams, except Arsenal. The impact of those changes is completely unknown and although I am an optimist, I certainly don't feel any certainty in us winning something.

I am certain though that at least one of our existing players will surprise everyone in a positive way, and probably one will surprise in a negative way. Why? Because it pretty much happens every year, on every team. So for me, I think of a big signing and a positive surprise, as much the same thing.

Last year we has Koscielney step up and Ramsey too, year before that RVP etc.

So when people say "No chance" they generally assume that every player will play like they did the previous year, and that is just not the case; players change.
