I remember traveling to leeds to play rugby and being taken aback at how great the city actually looked. True, i didn't see the suburbs, but the parts i did see where magnificent.
I actually live in Beverley myself but having lived in Hull I much prefer it there, hate to say it but Beverlonians can be a bit stuck up and provincial, and the place is a bit boring also to be honest. Hull town centre is pretty revitalised these days with the sad exception of Whitefriargate and I really enjoy walking around, also around the Marina which is very chilled out. Having been to quite a few other Cities there are not many that compare to Hull in my opinion, and the negative impressions are often outdated and date from after the war, when the town really was a bombed out ****-hole.
Hull's suburbs and estates have good and bad parts like any other major city in the UK. I agree about the sports village. It will allow the City to flourish if done right.
^^^ This ^^^ I don't know if Tony Warner's Anus actually means that he'll live in Sheffield, or just that he's tasted what it's like to live outside of Hull, but I agree that Sheffield is a very dull place. I even find shopping in Meadowhall tedious.
i've been to sheffield a few times, but always remember a school trip to magma or magna or summat like that and thinking 'this is worth a trip, why?'
Hull is superior to Sheffield in most aspects, there's no comparison really, I've spent much time in both cities being an ex-raver and spending many a night at Gatecrasher One, pubs are ok but Hull's ahead in most other areas.
Grew up in Anlaby, moved to London through University and then work, when people have asked where I'm from, I usually get a blank stare and the where is that?
1. Really!? Why!? 2. WE - ARE - SUPERIOR!!! Nah, I just like winding Hullensians up. They always bite! 3. I think it's OK, but I fail to see how Hull is much better. Apart from the Tigers, of course. 4. I REALLY disagree! There's **** all there! 5. I think people would be right to have a negative opinion, it's just that they have one for the wrong reason! They see it as dirty, which it isn't really, whereas I have a negative opinion because there's nothing to attract tourists, etc!
Beverleys OK, don't get me wrong, I do live here, probably near you to be honest, I just find people more down to earth in Hull, having lived both places. Beverley is a safe place but sometimes you need a bit of excitement and there's not much here to be honest.
I've been to Magna several times for Hard House and Trance events but can't really give you a good opinion of the place seeing as I was pretty far gone every time!
Since I don't actually live in the City anymore I suppose it would be unfair for me to comment. However I do spend most of the week there and most of my family still live there. I'd say that most of the country has very negative view of Hull and its people. The reality hits when you spend time in other places and you realise what a dump Hull actually is. It's like most places it has its good and bad areas (mainly bad). Although I'm very proud to come from Hull, I wouldn 't really want to live there again and as soon as I finish my degree I'm outta here.
haha wish i was! I've always thought of beverly as a kind-of retiring zone, for people of a certain age who can't stand the noise as they sleep
I pretty much agree with this though I have a nice place here now so will put up with the lack of stuff going on just for that.
Today I found out you can't buy any form of shoe in Beverly, despite the remarkable funding it receives from the EYC. Annoyingly, I had to take a trip to Hull instead. They should give more to my little town, where you can only buy things that cost £1
