Four clubs involved in two play-off matches that ended 79-0 and 67-0 respectively - a total of 146 goals - have been suspended in Nigeria.

Plateau United Feeders were 79-0 victors over Akurba FC while Police Machine FC demolished Bubayaro FC 67-0.

"It is unacceptable - a scandal of huge proportions," said Muke Umeh, chairman of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) Organising Committee.

"The teams are suspended indefinitely, pending further sanctions."

Plateau United Feeders and Police Machine went into the matches level on points, with promotion to the lowest tier of the Nationwide League Division at stake.

Feeders scored 72 of their goals in the second half, while Police Machine reportedly scored 61 times after the break in their game.

The results meant that Plateau edged above Police Machine on goal difference.

Now obviously there is a bit of match fixing going on here (allegedly), but my question is, how the **** do you score 72 goals in 45 minutes? The other team must have literally sat on the side of the pitch whilst the Feeders took kick-off directly with a shot on goal, run the ball back and repeated.

This also doesn't seem the most subtle way of using corruption to gain promotion. <whistle>

However, that does remind me. I've got an email, I've won the Nigerian lottery apparently, I just need to send my details. Brilliant. Have just handed in my notice and told the missus I'm divorcing her.

All the goals must have been Beckhams from the half way line

Easy, just press the square button from kick off and aim back at your goal, then walk the ball into then net with your keeper. Works for me on FIFA.

Did none of the officials notice anything slightly off during the games? <laugh>

How did anyone expect this to go by without getting pulled up for it?

One would have to reasonably conclude that the match officials were more than likely to have some involvement in such a bizarre scoreline

You have to live in Africa or South America to understand the institutionalized corruption there. It is accepted and widespread. In some ways it is healthier than the covert corruption in the US and Western Europe. Everyone knows the "tip" required in order to gain a particular "favour".

I remember flying to one of these countries not so many years ago (but before 9/11) and being met by my brother in law walking across the tarmac, helping me carry my hand-luggage. When I asked him how he got onto the tarmac, he said, "Oh, well, it was your first visit and you don't speak the language, so I thought it was worth the <amount> to the guard, so that I could get air-side and help you through immigration and customs."

I doubt the players or the officials thought that they were doing wrong, but they were probably aware that it was getting a bit out of hand. I'm afraid that probably what all of them took from it was, that someone forgot to give the bribe to the FA!

England too, it is just that only the rich people know about it, that is why they are rich!

I knew a guy in England, who ran a successful service company with a lot of lucrative government contracts. I asked him how he managed to get those contracts. He replied that every single one had involved a bribe to the person involved in the tendering. He said kitchen appliances and furniture worked best. Not many wives turned down the delivery of a stainless steel set of appliances or some nice leather sofas, and it was a bitch to send them back once they had been installed, and the old ones removed.

Sounds similar to Fergie time over here then? Lets just hope we don't have to put up with "Moysey Minutes".

It was so shocking that the fact that the ref stabbed and killed one of the players is hardly noticed.

Gotta admit, Moysey Minutes is much catchier than Fergie time.

OT I know but a Brazilian singer was shot dead while performing for fans, and it was a free gig too. What is happening to the world?
