No. Things have taken a twist

We might not get 1M for him now. Beckford is trying to get a load of money off us before he goes so we are trying to cancel his contract meaning he can sign for nothing

Presumably that would also man that we don't have to 'pay up' the remainder of his contract? - which might be worth more than the transfer fee?

So all this "maybe we misjudged him if he's willing to take a pay-cut" stuff is now, bollocks? Lol!

He has taken a pay cut, he wants us to pay him off some of his wages he is going to lose though. If we agree to cancel his contract Bolton will save around 1M which then they will have to give Beckford a cut in signing on fee's

    We just want rid

With players like Sean St. Ledger, Paul Konchesky and Neil Danns instead of trying to ship them out which will prove difficult we should offer them a new contract on reduced terms. They will still get paid more here then anywhere else's so they might be willing to cut their wages. In an ideal world they would be all gone but I dont think its possible. They are all capable of playing roles here.

As Nigel has said signing new players will be difficult so why not use what we have. Neil Danns is a decent player on massive wages, same as SSL. If they was on sensible wages then we would all be up for them staying.

I don't think St Legder is good enough, he can look lost sometimes, would rather have Keane back in on loan.

Danns i have no problem with, apart from the fact that (imo) his wages don't relate to his talent (unlike Schmeichel who is worth every penny we are spending on him).

Yep Id actaully like to see Danns given another chance. Have a good solid pre season from him, show us he wants to fight for a place. A very useful player in the championship.

Just been reading elsewhere he wants 2mil from you guys as a pay off !!, I believe if he plays one more game for you it's another million quid to Everton ;), how much did Sven pay for him again ??, do you guys think Pearson will get to Xmas before being sacked !!, or do you think you are genuine contenders this season , even with the Dead wood at your club although dead wood did cost you a fortune lol, oh well good luck for the season lady's <whistle>

Thanks for your interest slackalison - we paid too much for him that's for sure - and it soon became evident why he was behind Yakubu in the pecking order at Everton. The payment to Everton is a bit of a red herring in some ways - I'm sure we would have paid it gladly if he had performed to a level that would have got us promoted but, sadly, the only thing of Premiership proportions about JB is his ego. Not therefore surprised to learn that he feels he is owed £2 milion for effectively failing at his job - sums the man up.

As to Nigel Pearson - personally, as I've stated on other threads on here, I think he will be given 10 games to demonstrate that we are promotion 'contenders' and that will entail obtainng 20 points - anything less and I feel he will be toast (others don't of course).

Chris Wood faded after a very impressive start for us last season amidst rumours of injury and / or a fall out with the manager - whatever the reality he needs to recapture that early form. We lack a bit of steel and backbone but have some very talented younger players - if we can strengthen in key areas I expect us to mount a challenge. What to you think of your own club's prospects?

All depends on whether we are in the top 6 after the first third of the season, otherwise, i dont think he will make it to December.

Im pro Pearson, but even i think he'll be judged after the last game in October (Bournemouth H) or the last game in November (Millwall H), Millwall are prolific at getting managers sacked after they win.

If we are 10th or below after Bournemouth, i think he will be gone, If we are 8th or below after Millwall, it will be the same result.
Staying in the top 7 is paramount for Pearsons safety imo, it was a tight season last year, i can see it being alot more stretched this season between the top and bottom.

From what I've seen of the building going on here is my initial take on the 'obvious threats'

Wigan - already signed 8 players - all good pros to bolster a squad that won the FA cup outplaiying the then prem title holders
QPR - will be bankrolled under a very astute manager
Reading - good manager with a very capable squad bolstered by parachute payments
Bolton - arguably the form team at the end of last season - good manager - already strengthening and a goalscoring Beckford could be the last piece
Blackburn - underperforming last season - not surprisingly given what they did on the manager front - but expect them to be a lot stronger
Watford - depends on who comes back but outplayed us (to different degrees) in four games (although we did secure one workmanlike win)
Brighton - depend what happens post Poyet - but looked a good team with a good infrastruture
Forest - will undoubtedly be stronger this time around - think they will challenge for a play-off spot
Leeds - same as Forest - good manager in this division.
Not even going to try and guess at a 'surprise' contender e.g like Palace last season (although would go for Charlton if pushed)

Now I may indeed be a 'pessimist' but I see the league as a lot tougher this season than last

Your welcome floosyflaberto , I think it will be just as tight as last season , if not tighter !! 3 from 15 , as i think Yeovil, millwall , shef wed , are just 3 teams that will struggle this year !!.

Don't necessarily see that as a bad thing Proud - certainly can't have 'harmed' their recruitment and if they have a good campaign there it will breed tremendous confidence for the league ...
