I agree totally. I'd rather pop down my local clinic to be put to sleep if I were a 80 year old jibbering wreck than worry about getting a flight to Dignitas. If I were too messed up I'd want to (in advance) sign over that decision to my loved ones. Ilness can be cruel and I'd like to 'check out' in a place and at a time of my choosing.
You've had that experience - i haven't. However, in that specific situation if a soldier returns fire then i don't see that as really being wrong (all be it there's the chance of that being abused "yes he definitley shot me first - oh his gun must have been abducted by one of ER's alien friends) because it's basically trying to save your own life. We're not talking about that though Dev - this is about people being picked off the streets and thrown into jail without a trial - when America go into these places they're saying they have better human rights and justice systems along with everything else and then they go and act like that. I'm not especially anti US but that's shocking really.
I think Dan (although i'm not sure) that the people being lifted are a bit more heavyweight than that. We are not talking about simple footsoldiers here, we are talking about the Leaders of these mobs. There may be absolutely no evidence whatsoever which could get these people convicted in a court of law but very strong intelligence leads connecting them. I'm no flag waver but sometimes in a War or when you are dealing with radical nutters it's better to not know exactly what the authorities are doing (In secret) to deal with these people and frankly I don't care. Britain and America have doubtless carried out assasinations and it's on a need to know basis, we don't need to know because our Liberals would be on it like Oprah on a Ham. As Sean Connery said in the Untouchables "Never take a knife to a gun fight"
