I think the point that miff was making was the stat of 2 goals in 29 games last season, it doesn't quite equate to 1 in 3. I agree, and, for me anyway, recent form is much more important than historical stuff. I don't think Cole would solve our goal scoring problem, there is very little recent evidence of it anyway.
When those videos of Austin were posted the other day, I did think to myself 'surely he must be doing damage to his knees with all these 'sliding on knees' celebrations.
Really does seem as if we werent arsed about the shoulder. That mustve been why it was so late on, I'd hazard we stringently checked his shoulder, that was deemed fine and then the knee scans which we thought would be fine threw up a problem. I feel for the kid, nobody else is going to sign him this summer now and he's stuck there til Jan at least, by which time to get a move he'd really have had to pull up some trees.
It is a shame for him. I do remember Van Nistelhorsefaces knee falling apart in his first Man Utd medical. He had an op and they bought him the following year (from memory). It's a tough one, does he go for corrective surgery now and miss a large chunk (if not all) of this season, or like you say, hope he has a good start to the season and see if someone takes a punt on him in January.
"It seems its a non starter at the moment" sounds incomparably different to the deals definitely off notion that was on here this morning (that's the first I've actually seen of his appearance on talkshit this morning). Maybe we've told Burnley we'll take him at a cut price fee but we're not gambling £4.5m when he has a dodgy knee. Even if that's the case, I don't think they'll let him go for any less, at least not until August 31st at the very very earliest.
I wouldn't feel too bad for Austin, if he has another very good goal scoring season for Burnley he'll leave on a free and get a VERY nice signing on fee or massive wages, or both, Burnley on the other hand will get **** all, perhaps if you have any sympathy it should be aimed at them. There's also always the chance that he may get a knee injury in his first game, remember Bullshitard, at which point everyone will be ****ed but us
Gotta be the latter. He hasnt got a job next season at the mo, he needs to either sign with Burnley again and have the op (assuming one is needed) or bang em in left right and centre with hardly any games missed and get a move.
He didnt get the injury in his first game, he was already injured. Ive posted many times on this the fact he had already booked his op with Dr Richard Steadman BEFORE he signed and quoted my sources.
I don't think he has an option, Burnley aren't going to allow him to take most the season out so he can go to the premier league for free at the end of his contract. I think he'd have to sign a long term deal before Burnley even considered it and then he'd have to prove himself after. If no one takes him now or in January I bet he'll just play his contract out and then I'm certain a premier league club would be willing to gamble on his fitness when there's no transfer fee involved (and minuscule wages in relation to the premiership).
Having listened to the Steve Bruce interview on talksport it is interesting to note that SB uses the words ""thats it for the moment"". So is there still a chance that something may yet happen re.Austin subject to a payment re-structure as an example. ? Listen to it and make your own mind up. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/23238595 and click on to the bruce told talksport bit.(in blue)
Maybe we'll offer them an appearance related transfer fee, similar to that of Quinn but of far higher value, in which case I think they'd be mad to accept as even if this apparent knee problem doesn't become problematic there's no guarentee he'll make the step up to the premier league and could end up hardly playing meaning they lose him for 2 pints of lager and a packet of crisps.
Scrap that - just spoke to the sports journo bloke, he's saying we can't afford Rhodes, but Bolton can. Well more a case of Bolton are willing to if they get the cash together. He said we've been in for many different strikers this summer but have been totally half-hearted in all our approaches. We tried for Rhodes last month apparently but offered players plus cash, even though we know Blackburn need cash.
if it's his knees maybe he shouldn't celebrated in such a way all the time. Personally I think it's good, we've learned our lesson and I really wasn't feeling it. His reputation was really made before xmas, certainly not after.
