Is it time for the sound system at St Mary's to be replaced?

I can never make out a word of what is being said over the sound system except in the men's lavatory.

We have one of the top sound research centre's in the UK at the University of Southampton and yet for over ten years we have put up with such poor acoustics.

Is it time for Nicola to do something about it?

 

Yep...it's awful, hopefully it's on Nicola's to do list.

 

No its fine. I can't hear a bloody thing from the gimp on the microphone and that's just fine with me.

Tanny works fine for half & full time results which is pretty much all I want to hear.

Although knowing the club, Sammy Saint will have his own microphone and complete dance troop next season. Which will make some fans more happy & animated than when Saints actually score.

Yes, it is awful. Totally agree with Godders. Mind you the guildhall has shocking acoustics. Maybe its a Southampton thing.

 

The annual sound system thread

I seem to remember Lowe puuled the plug on a better sound system in favour of TV screens. Good decision at the time i think given our limited budget. But yes, does need updating. I'm surprised elf and safety have not recommended it! Would be a bit sad to miss the evacuation announcement.

One of the things that is really tricky to get right is the appropriate sound level for different attendances. What sounds right for an empty stadium sounds awful when its full. But as we have full houses every week, we should be over that.

 

You can also hear everything better in the Ladies toilet as well. The tannoy was very loud in the Kingsland when they opened SMS, so it had to be turned down and now is very unclear. The system has to be loud enough for people to hear, yet not so loud that they can't talk to each other. Sad to say, I suspect anything that doesn't directly affect income will be last on Nicola's list.

 

Don't worry....most people know that evacuation is 5 min before half time and 5 min before the end of the match. (Lights blue touchpaper and stands well back).

Sometimes you can hear the announcements fine and other times you can't. Why is this?

I have another question does St Mary's have WIFI? Because I find it a bit of a black whole for mobile signal :/
