Mike White reckons Hooper wants £70-£80k p/week!? **** that! We might have to push the boat out for Rhodes.
Nobody worry. Bruce will have known of this shoulder problem before he attempted to sign him, and will have had another player lined up in case Austin didn't pull through.
Bruce has just been on Blunderside, he says Austin has failed his medical and the deal is a 'non-starter'.
They kept laughing at stuff that wasn't really funny, acting all matey and that, so yeah I think they're all quite "tight" as the homies say. Austin failed medical, didn't go into details, but you would imagine his flakey shoulder. "Back to the drawing board" Brucie said, expects "at least 3 more" to come in before the close of the window. Back in the old days, all the players used to come back in a stone heavier to pre-season, then they all laughed about how fat they all are. He sounded quite chipper but did confirm, in case anyone wondered, that we CANNOT afford Benteke. Repeat, CANNOT afford Benteke. In case you wondered...
The language really is quite interesting. I have rarely if ever heard such a definite rejection based on a medical. He must be really fooked.
Whilst it's disappointing for us, let's not forget how Austin must be feeling. He must be feeling pretty down at the moment. I'm sure Brucey will have other options. I think the club have done the right thing. In Bruce we trust.
I read the Bartley tweet last night and suspected this would happen. Out of the three parties (two clubs and Austin) I reckon we are the least devastated by this. Fell sorry for the lad most of all and hope his shoulder improves enough for someone to take him in January or next Summer. This might now force Steve Bruce's and Assem Allams hand a bit. If they are being quoted daft wages by Hooper's agent they may as well go back for Jordan Rhodes, who is a better player anyway. Whatever happens Bruce has loads of irons in the fire so there's no need to panic. It just means we need to speed things up a bit now. Shame when this kind of thing happens, nobody's fault.
