Carrabuh, it might be to what we see on the pitch, but we only really see the players one day a week. Club captain may have off-field responsibilities that are still important when it comes to squad harmony and morale.
You don't need an individual to do that.
Far to much emphasis put on club captaincy in this country.
Lets face it, club captaincy is total bollocks, means next to nothing.

i know what you mean, captain on the pitch does not hold the same weight as it perhaps used to although it does depend on the individual - we'll definitely miss holt's influence but he would have been the same had he not had the armband - and it's not like cricket or rugby in that respect, but club captain certainly means something both within the club and within the local community. i hope and think russell martin should get the role. perfect for it![]()

i remember thinking exactly that at the time!i know what you mean, captain on the pitch does not hold the same weight as it perhaps used to although it does depend on the individual - we'll definitely miss holt's influence but he would have been the same had he not had the armband - and it's not like cricket or rugby in that respect, but club captain certainly means something both within the club and within the local community. i hope and think russell martin should get the role. perfect for it![]()
O, I'll probably 'get shot down in flames' for this, but I prefer Whittaker to RM, as I think he offers more in an attacking role. My choice for captain would probably Bassong.

Surely the club captain is a position irrespective iof whether they play or not. Russell Martin IMO feels probably more deeply for the club than any other current member and should be given that title on that basis, as well as being a fine footballer.

my choice of russell martin would be as club captain - i think bassong would be a good captain if martin doesn't play![]()
