I know Ash will be captain this season assuming he is not going anywhere by the end of the window but i have said on more than one occasion that i think he puts in a better performance when he dont have the responsibility of the arm band,
just out of curiosity who do my fellow jacks think would make a good captain and give the reasons why...

Im inclined to think michu from midfield would be a good choice. this is mine but for the reasons then i like his passion on the pitch the way he encourages his teammates whether they make a good move or not....who would be your choice..?

Good one Dai, I'm a believer that our captain should be a defender as they see the game unfolding before them. I don't think Ash is Captain material as I do think this affects his game. The two people that come to my mind, Rangel and Chico both committed players. I'd love Chico to be captain but think Rangel would be a cracking captain.

If I look to midfield it's going to be difficult as I do think Laudrup will rotate this area for a lot of games and not one player will play every game, so their won't be any continuity.

Saying all that I can't see Laudrup taking the captaincy off Ash, unless he Ash moves.

Whoever it is needs to speaky the good english, otherwise talking to those loons with the whistle could get a little problematic.

It's going to need to be somebody who is in the team almost every game. I would have picked Leon, but he's not guaranteed to be playing. I have no problem with Chico or Rangel providing they are up for it linguistically. Vorm would be a good candidate - a lot of teams at club and international level are making a keeper their captain on the field.

All i will say is that as we may have up to 7 spanish players on the field at one time maybe an English speaking spaniard springs to mind, How good is Chicos english.

    Angel Rangel for me.
Ticks all the boxes and would be a good link man between the Spanish and the Brits (and the fluent English speakers).

Personally I would have gone for Leon (but not probably guaranteed a starting place now), but with lot of Spaniards, I would plump for Chico if his English is good enough to deal with the referees, if not, then Rangel <ok>

Wouldn't pick Michu. Would rather him not be pressurised with the captaincy.

    Great thread Dai <cheers>

If its a English speaking spaniard then it would have to be Rangel surely?

the more i think about it the more i like rangel for the reasons given..I think we will probably have 3-4 stand in captains this season with the league, cups and europe to contend with..

Michu is too laid back a character, a bit of a free spirit and I wouldn't like to see his game inhibited by the burden of captaincy. You need a strong character with "Spanglish" bilingual fluency. Think Rangel fits the bill. Leon is not guaranteed a starting place; Chico is probably too fiery and his English needs more time; Ash doesn't do it for me although Laudrup will probably stick with him. Interesting.

    Good thread, Dai.

ANYONE that's playing will do for me beats the current situation when our captain hardly gets a game. Don't know of any other club that has a captain who hardly gets a starting spot in the team. This has been going on for the last 2 seasons.i like Gary Monk but this is a farcical situation we find ourselves in.

Gary is club captain and ash is game captain. do you know that Tate is still vice captain.....Monk is the one in the dressing room before the match and ash takes over if he is not playing....I dont want monk to stop being club captain whoever is the captain on the pitch..

I personally think ash is a very good captain. When was the last time we've actually struggled in the league? Bad patches yes but never found ourselves struggling. For me he has to take some credit for that, he's the one that's in charge when they are out on the pitch.
If ash were to leave I'd like to see vorm made captain. He has a steady head on the pitch, communicates well and from his position is able to see everything that happens out on the pitch. I've never really thought of Rangel as a leader, would be interesting to see how he would handle it.

Michu is always the one to urge the team forward when we start retreating into our shells when defending a lead. I know that's not much of an argument to make him captain but he does seem to see things out on the pitch.

He does, but i like my captain at the back, who sees everything in front of them.

I'll second that - Rangel for captain! If not him I'd like to see Britton made captain - providing that he get's enough games.

Maybe Britton is too short to be captain? :emoticon-0111-blush
