QPR want Newcastle defender Taylor

By Andrew Tuft
Monday 08 July 2013
Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp wants to bring Newcastle centre-back Steven Taylor to Loftus Road, the Chronicle has reported, but Taylor is said to be unsure about leaving both the North East and the Premier League.

QPR dropped into the Championship at the end of last season and Redknapp is currently plotting how to return the Londoners to the top flight at the first time of asking, with Taylor said to have been identified as part of the manager’s plan.

However, Taylor is not said to be looking to leave Newcastle and has three years remaining on his contract at the club, as well as a close working relationship with manager Alan Pardew. QPR tried to tempt Newcastle into a deal for Taylor by offering striker Loic Remy in a swap move but Taylor showed no interest in heading south.

Taylor would have joined a number of former Newcastle teammates, with both Danny Simpson and Joey Barton contracted to the R’s. Simpson has just moved to the club after his Newcastle contract expired while Barton spent last season on loan with Ligue 1 side Marseille.

Always rated him. Great attitude. Right age, will peak in the next two-three years and still has 6-7 season left in him at top level.

=

Won't happen.

hehe, 27 so is probably the oldest age Id sign. If it doesnt work out, we can still sell him in a year or two plus he will still be playing for another contract.

Taylor would be a great signing for us. He can be a bit injury prone but he is a real leader and It would be great if we could get him. Not too sure if Newcastle would let him go unless they can get someone else in. ( Has Coloccini gone? )

It seems to me that Harold is targeting mainly English / British players ( Simpson, Parker, Taylor, Townsend, Hooper, Le Fondre etc ) Maybe he's after a British based dressing room thinking that they will bond better than having too many foreign factions. Those divisions were certainly a key factor in last seasons lack of team spirit.

He's a Geordie, playing in the Premier League in front of 52,000 fans with 3 years left on his contract - I don't think so.

I very much doubt it too, sadly. But the lure of the lucre can bring about some strange happenings.
We've also offered Remy as part of the deal......................................

Redknapp Offers Remy For Taylor!
By Footy Mad - Editor
Updated Monday, 8th July 2013

Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp wants to take Newcastle centre-back Steven Taylor to Loftus Road.
QPR dropped into the Championship at the end of last season and I'm sure Taylor has other plans rather than drop down a Division.
Redknapp is desperate to get £85,000 a week Remy off the wage bill, with no Premiership club showing any interest.

This does make me wonder what sort of budget Redknapp has been told he has got to operate within. I'm sure he'd love to keep Remy as much as we'd all like him to stay (if he is innocent), but clearly doesn't think he can.

Shame. In Remy, Newcastle would be getting not only a striker but a criminal legal team too

I hope that Nedhum gets an opportunity an centre-half next season. Lots of potential there, in my opinion.

Looks like the deal could be on. Taylor plus £6 million for Remy, good business if it goes through, especially if Remy gets banged up...

Interesting take on things from a Newcastle fan site:

"The sorry continues with claims that Taylor has been told by Alan Pardew that he won’t be first choice next season."

"One other element that would ‘fit’ with the claims is that it is widely accepted that Alan Pardew may have to generate the majority of any transfer spending this summer and sacrifices may very well be have to be made by the manager if he wants to bring key signings in. Doing part-ex using a player who the manager may not see as an automatic first choice would make some kind of sense.

Basically, we have one proven goalscorer and we have three reliable centre-backs, so the reasoning would be that we need two strikers on the pitch and we can only play two centre-backs at any one time…

As for the fact that Remy has off the pitch problems, Mike Ashley would likely need to smash his wage cap and Remy took the mick out of Newcastle could possibly be seen as just minor details to be sorted at this mad club in what is shaping up to be a very mad transfer window."

speaking of banged up, I just read that Taylor is very injury prone and would never last a season.
