Worst miss I ever saw was Marlon Harewood - ball was already going in when he tried (& failed) to "make sure" When we bought Currie, we were about 6 points clear at the top. End of the season, we were 3rd & in the play-offs. Ability wise (certainly the best crosser of the ball we had) he was top class but his work rate - covering for the left back was non-existent Player I remember really liking in that position was a loan (surprise, surprise) & that was Alan Mahon - certainly would have liked to sign him at the time
Anderson did not get a chance under McIness, but after his departure the new manager (O'Driscoll) played him quite a bit. I would not say he is an out and out winger. He's a good footballer with a good football brain. We are hearing at our end that the JET leg of this may still be on (but with you paying some of his wages) Anderson did not play in our first pre-season game last night - don't know if this is significant?
Our biggest issue is the fact of having JET wages on board, i would very much doubt that we would be willing to let him go and still pay some of his wages. We might as well keep him here if thats the case.
" When we bought Currie, we were about 6 points clear at the top. End of the season, we were 3rd & in the play-offs. " That had VERY LITTLE in my eyes to do with us signing Darren Currie. Going by the same logic, was having David Unsworth who was TWICE the left back over Diallo and others - Karbiassoon..................... a mistake too!!?? Quite simply, the Kuqi injury hit us for 6. Bowditch was treated poorly, after a good start. Scowcroft chipped in with ZERO goals on loan, and Counago well............ what was he doing!?!?!? His wages were absolutely crippling us, and he had no interest in playing. To lay ANY of the blame Currie's way for me is ridiculous. We had such a small squad, the players were out on their feet at the end of the season. I remember being at Bramall Lane during the 2-0 win, and was one of the few fans who sat down when everyone was chanting " we are going up ". Always have been a nervous town fan! " Player I remember really liking in that position was a loan (surprise, surprise) & that was Alan Mahon - certainly would have liked to sign him at the time " Agree with this though, Mahon was sheer class!
" Anderson did not play in our first pre-season game last night - don't know if this is significant? " JET was the ONLY Town player not to travel to Ireland with the rest of the squad our end........!
JET - at the start of the summer of to Fulham now off to League1. Seems strange but thats football. There is a player in their somewhere but how you get the talent out consistently I dont know Anderson - Heard of him and seem to recall seeing him a few years back and being impressed but seems to have fallen of my radar in the last year or two. Certainly good to hear us interested in a true wideman rather than a player who can play there though.
BBC now reporting that JET is in Bristol today for a medical and to discuss terms, looks like this one is happening lads.
Forgive me for being naive, but why if we wanted his wages of the bill pay up his final year of his contract? surely its going to cost us more because we have ando's money to find! http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich...p_with_bristol_city_s_paul_anderson_1_2268541
I'm with you on this one Guru, this is a very strange move from our point of view! In effect we're paying about 500k (based on 10k a week) to get rid of one of our most talented players, totally abusrd! The only reason i can think of why we are getting shot of him, is that i'm sure i read somewhere that Arsenal are due some monies from the original transfer, IF he played a certain amount of games, or a percentage of future transfers. Anyways, i'm sure Marcus knows what he's doing (cos no one else has an f'ing clue)
I geuss it's about getting the yearly wage down in line with FFP and if we pay him a lump sum (whilst probs paying the same amount of money) it doesn't count toward our yearly wage, if that makes any sense.
So apparently it is all official, done, dusted, completed, signed, sealed etc. http://www.twtd.co.uk/ipswich-town-news/23168/swap-deal-complete Still not largely sure if this benefits us greatly, given the speculation around the deal in the past couple of days but I suppose we will just have to wait and see
You're missing the fact that we are getting Anderson If we didn't do this deal then we would 1) still have to pay 500k for JETs wages 2) have him probably sitting on the bench for most of the season 3) let him go for free next season At least now we are trading a bench warmer for a first team player in a position we are in desperate need for, with the only added cost being his wages. Personally, I don't think it's a "good" deal I think it's a fair one, both teams could do very well out of it.
Well said Wrighty Like you say, better to get something out of the deal rather than letting him walk for free.
I like the fact that we've signed Anderson, think he will be a good player for us and hopefully will mean Edwards won't be in the team, however I am slightly dissapointed we've let JET go because he's one of our only players who is creative and also entertaining but I can see why he wouldn't be Micks cup of tea, I think most of us knew he wouldn't be when Mick first came in. I just hope we put something in the deal where we get a % of his next transfer fee. It does make me wonder about the future of Taylor though, not sure where he'll fit into Micks plans.
