On this day in 1995, Irish guitarist Rory Gallagher, aged 47, died after a chest infection set in following a liver transplant. (Apparently on being interviewed after a 'Woodstock' peformance, Jimi Hendrix was asked " So Jimi, what's it like to be the best guitarist in the world? Jimi replied: "I dunno, ask Rory Gallagher".) A relative of mine who introduced me to Rory Gallagher's music, told me he used to go there regularly and that, believe it or not, it was the epi-centre of rock for a few years in the late 60's/early 70's! Apparently, many rock bands, who played there, went on to become very successful. He also told me that when he saw Rory Gallagher/'Taste' play there, Rory was/got completely stoned, turned off his electric guitar at one point and played it like an acoustic guitar ... he got away with it because not only did the audience worship him but they were all sitting on the floor and so stoned themselves that it didn't really matter what he did or what sound he made!

She is exactly the kind of numpty that should be banned from ever going to a concert and the ticket should be given to a real fan.
RebelBhoy and his "I have a story about everything". A Cypress Hill got in my way once and wouldn't move. I jostled him out of my way and I think he thought I was amongst a group of folk just trying to get near him....I just wanted him out of the way. A story...not. A good one.....but a story nonetheless.

Some of his later recordings, resulting from his collaboration with Rick Rubin, made me see Johnny Cash in a new light ...
