today's game v Excelsior http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2G_U3CG7cuE Shelveys long pass to Donnelly for his goal was very Gerardish
Cheers Bony - we still look like a team of midgets - sorry in case PC brigade are watching - height challenged.
I think the first 11 will look far from the Ant hill mob .. Routs,Pablo and maybe Britton who will now surely rotate with Canas with Dyer rotating with the other wingers. First thoughts about shelvey were not good but then I realised the guy is only ****ing 21yrs old!! seems like he been around for ages! I read some comments from Charlton fans who said he was running games for them when he was 16/17 yr old , maybe this player will turn out to be the signing of the season? and considering he is English probably the bargin of the season when we sell him on for £30m !! I seriously think he could be sensational for us if Laudrup gets him properly focussed on his game
Another thing, we have seen how Joe Allen has struggled living in the shadow of Stevie G etc, Shelvey has had that treatment for a few years and different managers to contend with also,he hasn't even had a settld position either so for him to get away from all that and get back to basics with us may mean we see a terrific footballer set free from a lot of baggage. Good luck to the boy, I think he will do great for us .
From the snippets you see, just the one pass by Shelvey looked impressive. His signing didn't enthuse me but, I can see a lot of promise in the lad and hope under Laudrup he may well turn out to be an inspired signing. I'll still harp on about young Donnelly, I do hope that we plan on using him this season.
Great pass by Jonjo and I agree that he could prove to be a very good signing. As you say, NJ, a young player with bags of potential.
I'm in doubt where Laudrup will play Shelvey, and I'm curious which kind of player Shelvey will be turned into. Interesting if Laudrup is going to clone himself into Shelvey (play him on the left wing). Or in he's going to turn him into a more Physical AM like Gravesen was plying for Everton, and with luck Shelvey might turn out the next Gerrard....
Laudrup won't have any doubts, mikra, because he specifically wanted to sign Shelvey. That being the case, he will have a pretty sound idea of where and how to use him. That said, I think he'll remain flexible with his thinking depending on how the player performs.
