So some bloke copied Les Miserables and thought setting it in another country does not make it plagiarism? I hope all of his royalties go to the estate of Victor Hugo. Jeffrey Archer.
Not exactly a copy of Les Miserables, but crucially inspired by it, most of the central themes are there and he intended it that way - a good friend of Victor Hugo who produced a work which actually became more famous than Hugo's work.
Was it one of the Russians? I'm thinking Tolstoy (AK or even War and Peace) or Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment. Scattergun approach.
Just figured Crime & Punishment has a policeman in it and is introverted. Tried to re read it recently and realised my brain is not what it used to be.

The staggeringly big desert stretching across Western and South Australia is called the Nullarbor Plain. What does Nullarbor mean? (In 5 minutes I'm off the Heathrow, not sure when I will next log in, so if you are confident you are right don't wait for my confirmation. This is an easy one).
Arbor is related to trees, so Nullarbor would be 'No trees' which fits a plain... Where might you be most likely to find a 'yokozuna'?...
Well done Roller, ironically, the last three yokozuna all hail from Ulaanbaatar, *****lia, they're suffering the same foreign import crisis we're going through with football...
Hawaii and Alaska were the last two, but New Mexico was the 47th not the 48th state. Good guess Sooper
