The ESPN site is confirming that Jozy Altidore will be joining Sunderland after a (undisclosed so far) fee was agreed.
Earlier reports were saying that AZ wanted double the 4 million that Sunderland had offered and/or a 5 million quid add-on in the contract regarding appearances and goals over a 3 year period.

Good news. Always liked the lad. Lets hope he'll piss Di Canio off, and we can get him on loan for next to nowt in the next loan window!

He was late for his first ever game for us. Imagine if he does that with Paulo?

Can't help but think we are missing out here, I thought he had bags of potential when he was with us and is now starting to fulfill it, and a cheap price

Isn't the fee around 8 million quid? So yeah pretty cheap, nearly doubling our record transfer fee.

Will he still be banned for the 1st 3 games after getting sent off at the kc for us? Does a ban last 3/4 years??

He got sent off against Sunderland but was then suspended for Wigan away and Liverpool at home, so it'd only be a one game ban if it does carry over.

£8mil is what they reportedly wanted, I have read a couple mentioning £5mil which would be worth it, I know we wont be spending £8mil on a striker but if it is around the 5 mark i would take him over austin

Dare I say that Altidore has matured into one of the best strikers around...?! The kid had something... Still remember his goal against the Manchester blues at the KC. Lovely set up by Jan Vennegoor of Hessleroad and a delicious side foot into the bottom corner. That was enough for me to like him! He's fast and strong, but at the KC, immature and undeveloped. I reckon he'll do very well at Sunderland... shame we couldn't have signed him.

Agree completely. Always thought that JA was not given enough credit for his performances at City. Expect big things of him in the BPL. Wish he was coming to City.

Not many strikers who score two all season deserve much credit. He got far to much credit for his time here, he was awful. However he had potential, and he has now fulfilled that potential.

To say he was awful is a bit rich, especially with some of the strikers we've had since!

Matter of opinion I guess, he was very raw but I always thought he looked like he had something. No doubt we'll get to find out in the coming season. I'd have been happy if he'd have been coming back here, lets hope he doesn't come back to haunt us!

    Amen to that.

    He was utter ****.

Scored a decent goal against the Mancs and missed some horrendous sitters. Missed a hell of a lot more than he scored if truth be told.

Obviously he's kicked on a bit but let's not get carried away FFS.

Donkeys arse and banjo spring to mind.

As the saying goes "That was THEN this is NOW"!
Jozy did nothing for us and next to nothing at Bursaspor but he did the hard yards at AZ where he learned to use both feet and his head in scoring goals. Also started to find the empty space and got supply from his midfield men (Brett Holman was one) who knew how he liked the ball and where to put it. He has to start again at Sunderland and it will take a little time to 'hit the straps' with his team-mates and Di Canio. He will need to score 1 in 4 to hit double figures and that's a big ask.
This is his big chance so we'll see how he matures but give the lad credit and an "A" for effort he's worked really hard and only time will tell if he's good enough.

Not what ssn are saying. Fee agreed yes. But it would not surprise me for it to be true though. The fee is way ott for Altidore imo.

That's why I said he was **** and not he is ****.

He may do well at Sunderland and fair play to the lad for kicking on.

I still stand by my comment about his ****ness when he was with us though.
