Jozy Altidore has revealed that Sunderland have agreed a deal with AZ Alkmaar for his services. The United States international striker scored 23 Eredivisie goals for AZ last season and has long been linked with a switch to the Black Cats but was coy about the move earlier in the week. However, the 23-year-old, who spent time on loan at Hull City in the 2009/10 season, has now suggested on his personal website that a deal has been agreed and the transfer is imminent. The article was swiftly removed but that is believed to be as a result of Sunderland's desire to announce the deal themselves rather than any late hitch in the transfer. Altidore is set to undergo a medical on Monday before becoming the latest arrival to join Paolo Di Canio's rebuilding process at the Stadium of Light.
Just as I thought, someone hit the publish button prematurely and didn't think about the pending medical. As I can't see why Altidore wouldn't pass a medical (possible but unlikely: a heart condition) I want to congratulate you guys with your latest signing.
I'm not sure about that. The time you tried to organise a scrap in a McDonalds car park is still my favourite moment I've witnessed on the internet!!!
Lol, yeah that was pretty bad. I cant believe I actually rang him up to arrange that after exchanging numbers on here. I cant remember what he was called now?
How embarrassing arranging a fight outside of Maccy D's.... I could have at least made it at Burger King!
Willing to give him a go for the reported fee (Discos guess sounds about right) just hope he doesn't leave his shooting boots in Holland. Good to see you two kissed and made up (Teeside and Paolo) it brought a tear to my eye.
Sky are reporting the fee to be £6m.... http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11695/8810330/Transfer-news-Sunderland-agree-fee-with-AZ-Alkmaar-for-Jozy-Altidore Sky Sports sources understand that Sunderland have agreed a fee with AZ Alkmaar for striker Jozy Altidore. The 23-year-old forward briefly revealed on Friday evening that a deal had been done before removing the confirmation from his personal website. But it appears there has been no late hitch and the United States international is set to undergo a medical on Monday ahead of signing a permanent contract at the Stadium of Light. Altidore spent time on loan in the Premier League with Hull City back in 2009/10, scoring one goal in 28 appearances. But his reputation has blossomed since then and the powerful player registered 31 goals for AZ in all competitions last season. His arrival is just the latest in a series of acquisitions by Black Cats boss Paolo Di Canio as he looks to overhaul a squad that came perilously close to relegation from the top flight in May.
Was it deluded or cheikh? I dont remember! In fairness, I dont think anybody saw it as a bad thing. Nowt to be embarrassed about apart from the fact the venue was a McDonald's car park! I don't remember anyone thinking you shouldn't have done and I reckon a few wished they'd done the same!
