I'm sure we'll be reminded once the season kicks off, as BS man says we need depth and without that we'll finish 20th.

No doubt he'll have a big role to play over 38 games.

I'm sorry, but signing him is another Bullard in the making. Reading between the lines he looks like he is finished.

    You don't spend £6m on a player (especially someone like Pulis) and not play him. Granted, this is from Wiki (and my gran could have written it) but it says the following;

Palacios joined Stoke City on 31 August 2011, signing a four year contract along with fellow Spurs team-mate Peter Crouch.[26] The fee was undisclosed but is believed to be around £6 million.[27] He made his debut for Stoke in a 1–0 win against Liverpool on 10 September 2011.[28] His start to his Stoke career has been restricted by a knee injury and tonsillitis.[29] Palacios eventually made his first league start on 21 December 2011 away at Manchester City.[30] By March 2012 Palacios still hadn't managed to become a regular in the side playing mostly in cameo roles. Manager Tony Pulis revealed that his fitness level a long standing knee injury – has been the problem and that the fans won't see the best of him before he has undergone a full pre-season training schedule.[31] However he was unable to get into the starting line-up in 2012–13 making just four appearances all as a substitute.[32]

If Stoke spent £6m then they would look for to recoup half, plus the fact that the player hasn't made a transfer request to my knowledge means they would have to pay his contract up in full.

For a £3m fee and wages of c£20k per week I'd look back at Bridcott as a better valued option.

    Anyone agree?

Tony Pulis spent fortunes on players he barely ever played off the top of my head, Tongue, Olofinjana, Sonko, Sanli Tuncay etc.... He had a lot of money to spend at Stoke so to say especially like Pulis is completely wrong.

Yet i do agree with your point i would prefer Bridcutt, as he would come back down with us if we did go down.

This is why need another goalkeeper and two strikers as well as more squad players. We didn't have much choice last season.

How is it brilliant signing a Stoke flop? He hasn't played for 2 years. There has to be a reason.

Why would you risk £1m wages per annum plus a transfer fee and whatever signing on fees etc

I think it is potentially a brilliant signing because I would trust SB implicitly when it comes to signing a player he knows. SB hasn't let us down yet - Palacios is only 28 - again potentially at the prime of his career. I'm less concerned that Pulis didn't rate him

Palacios had real difficulty dealing with his brother being murdered after being kidnapped, despite the ransom being paid. Who can blame him really. He needs to play for someone who can put an arm around him and who he can trust. Uncle Steve is perfect for that role. You get his head right and confidence back then you've got a top midfielder back. Easier said than done.

    Do we need to gamble?

£26,000 per week and £1.5m fee.

If Bruce is sure Palacios could be a great buy, although what's happened to the Huddlestone rumours? (Huddlestone kept Palacios out at Spurs)

On form brilliant, another Bullard not so good.... Horsham Tiger: stating the bleeding obvious since 1970......

**** me, we might be getting a quality player and people are still moaning.

It you'd have told me a few months ago that we'd have been signing the likes of Figeuroa and Palacios, I wouldn't have believed you.

Now how about that Messi bloke, do you reckon he's too short to be any good?

As far as I know Messi doesn't speak English, we need to hit the ground running so I'd avoid at all costs.

    And he needs a haircut.

plus he's been accused of not paying his tax.
Don't want him, we've got enough tax dodgers in this country.

Some people are just never happy, won't be happy until we are getting turned down for unrealistic targets. Palacios would be an immense signing. He's under 30, bags of experience, he just needs to get back to concentrating on football. What better way to achieve that than playing for the manager that gave you a break in English football?

I think Palacios would be a fantastic signing. Even more so when you look at the possibility of Corey Evans being our best replacement in the centre of the park if one of our main boys was to get injured...

A downside to signing Palacios is that he is part of a package deal. You also get his mum as a free extra and she thinks she is assistant manager at any club her son plays for. Give it 3 or 4 games before she starts picking the squad :)
