Both in the twilight of their careers and looking for a job after their contracts expired at Galatasaray. Harry quoted yesterday that there were offers on the table from Australian A League Clubs (where he has promised to end his career) but there are also offers from England but didn't elaborate. Lucas is a centre/right back and could have a season (or two) left in him and could fall within our budget whereas Harry has been injury prone and might be a risk.
id go for neill but I dont think kewell could put up with the championship, bit too strong for him, he'd be even worse than koren for flitting out of games.
Are you joking? The man who could have gone to Liverpool but went to West Ham for the £60k+ pw! He'll almost certainly still be asking for stupid money.
I agree with Imperial about Neill and Kewell is past it anyway. Wouldn't touch either witha barge pole.
Harry Kewell's terms last season were a lump sum payment of 1m euros and a 30k euros per match appearance fee, he'll get another top European club for a season or two, he can still do way better than £10k a week from us.
Well, he is considering an offer from Michael Bridges previous Australian Club, Newcastle Jets, and as a Marquee Player I am guessing it would be around that amount. I think Harry is looking for a swan-song in England but I doubt there would be any EPL offers. His Missus says that there has been no offers from Galatasaray and some boards here in Oz are reporting that she said there were none from Europe either.
Can't really see either of them going to Hull to be honest. They're decent players nearing the end of their careers who would rather play in a top-flight division, even though the Championship does beat the A-League
I don't expect them to come to us either. I'm not sure what wages players get in the A League compared to teams in the PL or the Championship, but I heard this morning that they are considering putting back the start of the A League season due to lack of interest so wouldn't have thought that they would get the same level of wages in the A League? TigerRoo will, I'm sure, will know more about that than me.
Wages are very low here in the A League but each Club is allowed a "Marquee" player (like Robbie Fowler for instance) who can be paid outside the 'cap' so Harry and Lucas would come into that category. There is also talk of investment from these players so they could possibly play for next to nix as a number of 'Socceroo's' have made it known (Richard Garcia and Mark Schwartzer amongst them) that they intend to give something back to the game that made them rich people. The game struggles here and the World Cup would have been the boost required to establish it but that went down the gurgler along with the 45 million dollars used to fund the bid. I couldn't see Harry back in the UK personally but Lucas could find a place in a lower/recently promoted EPL Club.
Kaka's past it apparently. I've been told that the premier league's top scorer is on the out, and we have man united ties...
Kewell has been impressive at Galatasaray, especially in the Europa League, so I doubt he'll find it hard to attract the attentions of better teams than ourselves. Plus, even if he decides he IS willing to play for a 'poorer' team football-wise, he'd surely choose Oz. After all, who wouldn't! As for Lucas Neill, the guy epitomises the term 'mercenary'. Talk about Ronaldo, Rooney, etc all you want, but if ever you had to pick a footballer whose sole motivation was money, it would be him.
I don't hate money-grabbing footballers in the slightest. Surely everyone has gone from one job to another for a higher wage or a better lifestyle.
I know for a fact that if Liverpool offered me £40-50,000 a week, I wouldn't turn it down for £60,000 a week at West Ham.
If it means more consistent football and living in the more picturesque capital, perhaps i'd think about it. I might be biased cause i'm a Man united enthusiast
