Didn't know so much about him but read this and got excited. His travel through lower leagues makes him seem a bit Brazilian Rickie Lambert. Good frame despite a lack of physical strength so would probably need to put on some muscle, however the youtube videos have all got me very excited. If we managed him and Wanyama it would be two of the biggest coups in recent years.

You know, the more I think about Damiao, the more I don't want him, considering the fee stated. Not that he'd not be an improvement, but £20m could definitely be better invested.

 

Yeah, I'm kind of leaning that way.

I laughed when it was suggested earlier, but didn't realise we were looking to throw this kind of cash around...Lamela?

God knows what this means! I'm kind of reading it as Napoli will go elsewhere if they are not outbidding us?

 

It's difficult because a lot are unrealistic, but I'd consider Damiao unrealistic too so why not - we've already got players like Benteke costing that amount of money. Then the likes of Tevez, Balotelli, Sturridge went for the same or less. Lukas Podolski was half the price and Damiao isn't twice the player. Berbatov was significantly less. Osvaldo was rumoured at the same price. It's hard to think of players who would hypothetically go for the same money right now I'm just thinking, the likes of Schurrle and Isco cost around £20m, Higuain only a little bit more, and Damiao isn't on their level.

 

Hmm I think a purchase of this much money is going to have to be from outside Europe, although we may not like it we need a player that sees us as a springboard onto the European stage (by that I don't mean European competition, but in terms of playing in a European League).

 

Could have got one of Neymar's legs for 20m.

That's the only reason why I see trying to sign Damaio isn't a complete waste of time.

 

Obviously we can't compete on that price tag in Europe, I just don't think that's an excuse to drag that amount of money out of Europe and onto (probably) inferior talent.

 

He was there all last year. 40 apps, 15 clean sheets, but they are looking to sell to fund other areas. By all accounts he's been a star for them.
