I doubt he'd be on it - mostly played in Scotland, but did play for Carlisle and Northampton during WWII. His career 'heights' were achieved with Hibs and the delightfully named St. Bernard's.

British Empire XI sounds impressive. My dad's greatest claim was to have played in the 1938 Scottish cup semi final against East Fife - at least one of the games (it went to two replays).

He would have made a r=terrible manager.

I was on the Board of a Company at the Reebok Stadium in Bolton with Phil Gartside and he used to rate Allardyce - and then sacked him :) ( The Company I worked for ran the stadium as we had a hotel there

My sister, who used to live in Bolton, had two goldfish called Whatmore and Allardyce. Whatmore used to glide gently round the tank; Allardyce always took the lion's share of the food.

i'm very glad he got a job, he deserves one, and a good one. He has his work cut out, but i'm sure he's up to the task...and either way, as long as we beat them, i'm not bothered lol

It's funny how managers so often go back after their old players - I know DG came in after BR had gone but he must still have kept Watford well on his radar - now he is going into the Prem and it seems he is sniffing around DG

What is it with Hughes resignation - he says he has not lined up another club - but would he really just walk away without some kind of plan?
