Nope. Considering Celtic have been willing to talk numbers with other clubs shows they're willing to sell him. The only reason they'd be willing to sell him is because they know he only has a year left on his contract and has no intention of signing a new one. So how do you think the Celtic board will see it with him not interested in signing a new contract, but coming out saying he's happy to stay for another season? £5 million would be a lot to lose out on.
But the way Celtic look might look at it. They take £5m now, but maybe not make the champions league group stages, losing out on more than £5m. Or they keep Hooper, make the group stages, then lose him for nothing. They don't lose anything either way.
Austin is the right player for us; if Bruce is looking elsewhere, then it would have to be real quality and that is certainly not Hooper.
No offence, but you are a bit clueless. We may or may not sign one of these players, but we've conducted ourselves very well and there has been no sign of any consequence from either club about the availability of their player. If we bid high enough, we could get either, if they secure a replacement, we could get either, we're offering decent money for the players concerned, lets see if we get one before moaning about it.
Because he immediately loses every future penny owed to him. If he doesn't and gets his move Septic have to pay all future bonuses he would've earned if he'd stayed.
What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this thread is now dumber for having read it. I award you no rep points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Yes, but the priority is and always was strikers. Having done pretty good business pretty cheap in other positions, we really should be in a position to get a decent player in for the problem positions which have haunted us for years - the creative midfielder who can pick a pass and the bloody striker!
I think we'll get another keeper, a central midfielder and at least two strikers. The question is not if, it's merely who.
That's what we need, but I'd be surprised if we sign more than another two players. It always seems to happen every window, that we leave some obvious deficiency in the squad rather than addressing it.
It's Celtic - they'll re-invest the money in a new striker for less money that they will make a profit on at a later stage. They wouldn't have started talking to clubs about a sale if they saw it as loosing out on Champions League money, nor would they be entertaining the idea of selling Wanayama.
Sky sports newspaper section are linking us with a Katlego Mphela from South Africa. Anybody know anything about him?!
Thought the name rang a bell, what a strike that was......
What a strike that was! Nicknamed killer by all accounts for his killer instinct. I think our new strikers are more likely to end up coming somewhere like this as we try and stick to our transfer and wage budget. Either way in Steve Bruce we trust!
I thought Sky has us linked with that striker from Torino. What became of that? Fingers crossed that we've got Austin sorted.
