I love Mr Quinn for what he did for Sunderland but am talking about what is happening at sunderland now pal.
Totally agree, another point is all this "in PDC we trust" no matter what? Are these the same people that said the same about Bruce/MON then turned on them. Things needed to change yes! and I hope PDC/ Shorts gamble pays off but the blind loyalty to an unproven manager is strange. I think everyone will agree that they want him to succeed and after all it's the club that's most important but anyone questioning SNQ's love of SAFC obviously didn't listen to his commentary during the derby!
Thing is Tony that Quinn also appears to have a short memory. He hasn't had a great deal of positive stuff to say about us recently
You sound not so much as a glas half empty type more than someone tipped the pint over your head and then ground your glass into the carpet. FFS, Mignolet and his sale will not relegate the club. The squad is improving, more signings coming in and I do not believe SNQ would want his comment to become a catalyst for the reaction of hand wringing and brow beating that is going on here. Do not delude yourselves as thinking you are making reasoned debate.............your not, have a snickers and stop being drama queens.
Its not blind loyalty to an unproven manager though is it, Short has employed highly regarded Director of Football and a very experienced scout to assist the inexperienced manager who achieved the best ever results by anyone taking their coaching badges, not withstanding his widely lauded results at Swindon. And how much has been spent so far on players? Is anyone not impressed by the quality signings so far - or would you rather fill the squad with losers from relegated clubs? Don't forget, he had several years playing in the premiership at a decent level - this must count for something.
Meanwhile in Sunderland, [NSFW]a former player and chairman has an opinion on the club he invested so much time, money, emotion etc into.[/NSFW]
I do not mean to have a go at anyone...........I honestly believe there is massive change going on at the club - however you cannot guarantee success - ask Scolari , Roy Hodgson, O'Neill or any "big name" manager Newcastle have had, but surely we have to embrace the change - you cannot support a football club with if's & but's and use any criticism in the media as rallying point against PDC at this stage in the season. To carry on as was could not be an option surely thats obvious to a blind man on a galloping horse and a radical approach had to be at least tried.
I'm sure you know I'm as optimistic as they come regarding Sunderland and that's without having a clue who a lot of the names being branded about but the lad has a point. We're so so thin we wouldn't last the distance. I expect a lot more faces though so we should be fine.
It's the best pre season to date, it's about time someone gave our club a big shake to get rid of the deadwood. After all it couldn't be any worse than some of the dross served up over the last few years. In. PDC we must trust. HAWAY THE LADS!
Our squad is larger, physically bigger and has more depth than we finished with..........Bramble, Kilgannon, Mohammedy, Bardsley, Mignolet out and replaced with players we may not have heard about but on paper look every bit as good as this that have left, Mignolet excluded. And surely to god it will be fitter Fletcher, Catts and Brown will be back..........more signings seem pending. C'mon lads, pre season nerves and anticipation of the unknown are expected but doubts are surely a bit dramatic. Talk of being doomed is surely down casting to the extreme.
Afraid this was on my mind as well. I love Quinn but the man doesn't know how to run a football club. He did very well to get us the Drummaville lot. He did well to get us promoted and he did a lot better to get us Ellis but as soon as he became a premier league Chairman he was out of his depth. Poor choices of manager followed. Poor managing of said manager. Paying too much for players. Buying a **** load of bad players and having to loan them out. So on and so forth.
Don't get me wrong mate I'm with you, very excited, but we're still way too short at the moment, and like I said, I know that will change. Still only one fullback at the club and he's on his way out. Three fit CB's in the entire first team squad, one left sided midfielder and he's McClean. No comp for AJ, no Comp for Sess. I'm not doom mongering, just stating the present situation. As we stand we're in a relegation scrap but not to worry, early in the window and a lot of business to be done I say we still need 11 players to give us the depth (4 fullbacks, 1 cb, 1 RM, 2LM, 1 box to box, 1att mid, and atleast 1 more striker.
if there is a more sincere and honest man in football , point him out , a gentleman who gave every penny of his testimonial money to charity
Best response to a quote I've seen here for a long time! Good old common ****ing sense!!! Having said that, I'm full of Guinness!!
my sentiments here too. an absolute gem of a fella and one we need to be v. thankful for as we'd be dead by now, but he did get a bit out of his depth in the end...and who wouldn't have been. he must have been exhausted by it all. but his choice of player/manager was never the most astute...or his punditry. i'm callibg this a blessing in disguise, coz if he said he'd thout everthing was going great we'd be a bit fooked. still a legend, like.
Quinny will always be honoured and respected by the vast majority of our fans..However, recent comments by him lead me to suspect that all was not well between him and the club when he left..
I think Short, like he did with Keane, saw the chaps short comings as an EPL Chairman and like the ruthless ****er he is (no insult that) got rid.
