http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-pull-out-running-4874090 Best thing to do as Celtic just trying to screw as much as possible from the deal as are his agents. Over to you Saints!!!
Can't say I am too disappointed. Haven't seen enough of him to make a good call on his ability but 12 million for someone playing in the SPL is stupid money in the extreme.
I think he's going to kick off about this. Wouldn't be suprised to see us back in the race at some point. I see this saga running until his agents and Celtic back the **** up a bit or someone gets desperate. I'd rather take a couple of 'chances' in the squad than splash this much on a player who is currently overpriced based on starring in a one team league. Give me Bridcut over him anyday and we'll have change out of that £10m we offered.
Just logged back on to see this - I'm so glad! Agree about Bridcutt. A little bit older and experienced, great background from Chelsea days, and would cost less than half of that bloke. He'd do us a great job in a similar role. Malky - get on the phone to Brighton and you'll have enough left over to bring in a decent goalkeeper.....
This is the best news this summer. No player in the SPL is worth half of what Celtic are allegedly demanding. I hope Celtic and Wanyamas greedy agents end up with nothing. Now let's go and get some real players.
Wanyama is a beast! Suprised not to see him being linked with Liverpool/arsenal, 10m is probably a fair price. Look at how much Everton paid for Fellaini (15m), I could see wanyama having the same impact!
Not as ridiculous as the figures that were going round a few month back. I'm sure I remember £25m being mentioned after the game against Barca..
There's not much difference between 10 mill and 12 mill - in this day and age that sort of money in Prem terms is peanuts. If Saints pay a couple of mill more and get him, that's fair enough. As for £25M being thrown up after watching a game, that just demonstrates the ludicrous amounts of money currently at the disposal of the top clubs. Anyone can put an instant valuation on a player as a soundbite. I remember when Ince snr got the Blackpool job, he quoted his son to the media as being worth £20M and only that sort of figure would be considered. That may have been just "family" talking, but at some point, reality has got to kick in. The thing that seems to be becoming a common factor in all this is the growing number of "small" clubs like us and Saints for example, that are beginning to wade in and mix it with the big boys for players just outside the Cavani type category. The huge Sky and international TV deal dosh for anyone who makes it to the Prem is leveling the playing field for players below the stratospheric levels, and that can't be all a bad thing.
He may be a good aquisition, but there seems to be some greed from Celtic and the player's agent. Both deserve to miss out. As for us, I'd be happier with a couple full backs and miss out on a centre mid.
A centre mid with a very poor disciplinary record. I can just see the wise heads in the Prem winding him up to continue his misbehaviours.
I'd love us to spend £12 million plus on a real quality player who would go a long way to keeping us up - just relieved it's not going to be Wanyama (as he might not be worth that sort of cash). We could get two Aaron Ramseys for that.
