Mayuka as well will hopefully give us an option as direct winger/striker who cuts in. We will see.

For the record, I'd probably like to see 4 sfurther signings. An established central midfielder, a talented winger and a quality striker + a player to add depth and quality to the squad. Signing Wanyama and Banega, for example, would allow us to rotate between a quality selection of midfielders and even free up cork to cover other areas if needed (rb for example).

Know I'm going to get slated for this but as we already have some solid if unspectacular wingers who know the system, I'd be happy to take a gamble on someone like Bueno in a wide position. could be the x factor/super sub/plan b we will need and plenty of options otherwise.

    Nice response.

They aren't natural wingers, and shouldn't be playing there.

So how do you explain the manager's frequent decisions to play them there, and their proceeding to play well there?

I agree with you to an extent, but if we signed Wanyama and Banega, I would have no problem with shifting Ramirez to the left to make space for all 3 in the starting line up.

Isn't that the point of a forum?

They didn't always play well there, Rodriguez especially looked lost on the wing. They were played there because of a lack of options out wide.

Well I thought Rodriguez played very well coming in from the left, and I think Ramirez is equally good anywhere across that line, so, you know, deal with it.

Why do you have to put "like" in the middle of that sentence? Makes no sense.

I think you know exactly what S4FL was getting at. Do you really need to start this little argument?

Yes those players can play wide, and yes have they been played wide. But they are not exactly wingers in the more traditional sense, it wouldn't appear to be their natural position, and nor can you really argue that their best positions are out on the wing.

I've generally got little issue with them playing out wide, but I'd never call any of them a winger. De Ridder aside, we don't have a winger in our first team squad in my opinion.

I thought Ramirez was meant to be a winger when we signed him? Rodriguez played reasonably well in that position last season and his finishing sometimes lets him down so that might be his best position for the moment. I'd prefer a new signing but they're pretty good options.

No-one's claiming their natural position is out wide, but good squad players can fit in multiple roles. Versatility in the squad is way more important than high levels of specialisation. Cheaper too.

They don't need to play wide as such if the fullbacks are providing the width.

What was DTLW chatting about before, saying something's on the horizon? Did he have a timeframe?

No one called them a winger. I don't know why you and SF4L keep saying that word, to be honest. Kagawa, Welbeck, Milner, Silva, Mata, Oscar, Hazard, Walcott, Podolski, Sturridge and Henderson aren't wingers, and yet...

Think it's more important to get another attacking midfielder who can play anywhere in the 3 behind the striker (if we are planning on playing that formation). Banega surely would suit the middle position with Ramirez on the wing?

I think what we are all saying is, we would do rather well, to say the least, next season with the following team :)

    --------------------------Boruc--------------------------
    Clyne----------- Lovren-------Forren/Yoshida---------Shaw
    ------------Wanayama---------Scheiderlin----------------
    ----Ramirez------------Banega-----------Rodriguez--------
    -----------------------Damiao-----------------------------

Subs from:Lambert, Forren/Yoshida, Cork, Lallana, Gazza, Davis, Mayuka, JWP, Chambers, Fox, Guly, Puncheon etc

but wouldn't say no to another winger....

I agree that we could do with a little extra pace but I believe that Clyne and Shaw are more than capable of exploiting any weakness the opposition may have. I do think we need cover for them though when Fox plays he has no idea of his defensive position and doesn't have the pace to go past people.

I also think we already have a player with pace that will become a good impact player. I am not one of the many people that have written off Mayuka just because he didn't hit the ground running last season. Lets be honest without opening an old can of worms, I am fairly certain he was not a player who was top of Adkins transfer list last summer and because of this rarely feature in the first half of the season. The only game he started was off the back of the press he got for being voted 85th best player in the world, a game he failed to shine in. He then had to go to the African Nations cup right at the time Pochettino was brought in as manager. He missed out on the training camp in Barcelona and 2 or 3 games because of this. By the time he came back other players had established themselves, the team had changed how we played and he was way down the line in terms of a starting place. I think with a full pre season behind him and a chance to show what he can do, he will become a more important memeber of the squad. Similar can be said for Forren.
