Sunderland have made six signings already in the transfer window. Former striker and chairman Niall Quinn is concerned that Paolo Di Canio's targets may have left the club vulnerable next season.

It seems folk would rather have a threadbare squad, What with one fit center back and one fit fullback, before the two free agent defenders arrived. Folk don't want us to waste money on over inflated domestic players and they don't want us looking abroad because they're unknown or unproven.

Well lets just play two at the back next season JoS and Bardo. <doh>

I share the big mans concerns about lots of foreigners and whether they are all going to gel together and cut it in the EPL? Its a fair point tbh.

However, I fully conceded that we have been pretty ****e for the last 6 seasons (surviving by the skin of our ball sack last term) and that whatever PDC does it cant be any worse than the dire ****e we suffered for most of the klast 3 seasons.

Its a radical gamble from PDC and Short, is a totally different close season than ANY I have witnessed in my time following SAFC and comes with massive risks but you know what, 10/10 to everyone at the club (PDC especially) for havig the balls to try something different.

That said, SNQ is absolutely correct to point out the concerns of many here that it is a massive gamble but one we all as SAFC fans hope they have got right.

I'm sure we all have concerns as we are journeying into the unknown with an untried manager at this level.
However as has been said we have experienced some very ordinary seasons of late with two very tried and experienced English/Irish managers and it took us to the brink of relegation. PDC deserves his change even if only having kept us up last season, and if he sees fit to bring in young keen foreign players then I will happily wait and see how things pan out. None of us have a crystal ball and the doubters could be as correct in their predictions and
those who like me are genuinely excited for the season ahead but we will all have to be patient and wait and see.
It's onwards and upwards for me.

Yeah, this for me. I just get the feeling that PDC won't allow himself to fail.

Fair enough we haven't spent money, but that's only because they were out of contract. Say they were in contract what would they have cost combined. 9/10m? Would it make us feel better if they cost money?

He's got his opinions, we've got ours. They're not always going to be the same.

But lets not forget what he tried to do for the club....

**** me! SNQ took this club when it was destined for oblivion and put it on a footing of constant premiership action. The man tried his very best. Such short memories.

Weve just finished 4th bottom. I think we have little choice other than to have a big overhaul of the squad. Its make or break time now.
The players weve signed now have got a full pre season and plenty of friendly games to gel with the rest of the squad!

Sure he did a decent job while here and his place is guaranteed with SAFC fans. Present and future is what I'm interested in.

Exactly mate. it seems unless we spend beyond our means Sunderland AFC simply can't win. It's not a dig at quinny, just an observation on one section of opinions. Another is blind optimism which is where I sit and a tiny tiny minority who is in the know on European domestic football.

Lots of picking fault and no offerings for a solution.

Sadly, he obviously knows nowt about football then? Unlike you, with your sterling career and boardroom experience.

Oh no, I forget. You make a living waiting for people to get drunk so you can duff them up a bit when you chuck them out of daddy's client's premises and then tell us (yawn) about how hard you are.

he also convinced drumville then short to invest in this club.

Without SNQ, where would we be? 2nd division or lower. Bruce and MON not working out is not SNQ fault. How many people would have thought MON would fail?

SNQ has a point regarding all the foreigners we are bringing in, it is a risk. anyone who doesnt think so hasnt got his head screwed on right. But it is a calculated gamble, one I am happy for Short to make as previous stragegies havent worked.

As things stand we are going down, hopefully all these links turn into signings as our squad looks terrible at the minute.
