Perch says his goodbyes and confirms that Pardew tried to keep him but was overruled:

“I understand Newcastle’s new transfer policy. Time will tell if that is the right route but I loved it there, the fans are incredible and I will never forget them.

I appreciate that Alan Pardew did everything he could to keep me and I had a great rapport with the fans.

Newcastle will always be the first result I look out for after Wigan and I look forward to playing at St.James’ Park when we get promoted.”

This is what James told the local press today:

“The fans in Newcastle were amazing.” “I am overwhelmed by all of the messages.” “I had a great rapport with the fans up there.”

“Newcastle will always be the first result I look out for after Wigan. I look forward to playing at St James Park next season when we get promoted.”

“I appreciate that Alan Pardew did everything he could to keep me.” “I am delighted to be joining Wigan. It’s a great club.” “I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

“I understand Newcastle’s new transfer policy. Time will tell if that is the right route. But I loved it there, the fans are incredible, I will never forget them.”

“There was a lot of interest from other clubs.” “But I am looking forward to playing in Europe again this season.” “I played 37 games last season but the big factor from Wigan was they wanted me quickly.”

Wow. That quote about Pardew affirming the media's take on it being an "overruling" is mighty worrisome.

Great touch of respect from Perch. Respectful towards a manager who worked hard with him and improved him as a player, respect for the club and fans in general. Wish him all the best. I wouldn't have sold him but we move on.

Getting rid of Perch annoys me, sending him to a **** club like Wigan which I ****ing hate repulses me. Good Luck Perch, you deserve a hell of alot better than them shower of bastards.

If as has been stated, JFK will get rid of those players who are not good enough for Newcastle, then fine, l have no issues with that.
If Perch falls into that category then so must, Ameobi x 2, Overran, Gosling, and sadly probably Jonas.
Amalfitano and Abied have already been told they can leave. There could be a few more to be fair, but what l want to see now is some consistency regarding this so called new policy.
That being the case we should expect more exits and so be it. Let's just hope those vacancies are filled with better than those who go.
I guess we best just hope they are replaced, end of !

It's worrying quite how far we've got to go. Given the club has stated several times its looking to bring in a striker and a defender at best, I don't think we're getting there this season. I think the bottom line is that we're not going to be a 'challenging for honours' club under Pardew, Kinnear or Ashley. Sorry to state the bleedin' obvious, like!!

We'll be lucky with Kone and Tomkins. Ameobi will stay, and so on. Prepare to be massively underwhelmed.

Hugely saddened by Perch's departure from the goldfish(perch) bowl that is us.

Am I the only one who is 99% sure Strolla is going to stay?

Of course he is going to stay, you could not extract him with a crowbar. It may be the easy option for him, but it's no longer a good option for the club. Loyalty is one thing, but hanging on for the sake of it, when you really have nothing more to offer, just means we risk festering in the bottom of the table again, and that the club will not seek his replacement. They will get away with this by taking the.... It's fantastic news for Newvastle United, line... Shola Ameobi agrees to stay at Newcastle and help them improve over the disappointing previous season.
    Good old Strolla, eh?

I am a Strolla fan and think that he has contributed more over the years than he often gets credit for, but even I want him to leave while I can still waive him a fond farewell

My sentiments exactly Freddd, it's not that l am not a fan of Shola's or that l don't appreciate his love of and loyalty to the club. He is black and White through and through and l love that about him. However, he is well past his best, which to be honest, was never really good enough in the first place.
Sad as it may be, when the time comes, it comes.
Shola is not good enough anymore and is keeping someone else out of the squad, who would be better.
I didn't want Shearer to retire, but even l could see that my all time hero was at the stage where he needed to call it a day.
Freddd, is spot on, Sholla should call it a day whilst he is still loved and respected.

I'm with you, I don't think Shola has eve really cut it. He had a spell under Robson where him and Lua Lua were useful unpredictable sub options. Generally though the lad has put me through great pain watching his lazy displays week on week. I just wish you could put his love of the club and loyalty into every player who signed for us. Time to move on but I have been saying that for a number of years and he keeps reappearing come pre season!

The funny thing about Shola's career is that while, after those first heady Barca bashing days, he has never really been good enough, he has also routinely turned out to be indispensable. I don't remember how many times the latest wunderkind has arrived to banish Shola to certain oblivion only for us to find ourselves in the position a few months later when we needed Old Shamblefoot after all.
