Aye up peeps, McDermott is said to be working overtime to bring in at least one of two new faces before Saturdays game v Farsley. Any guesses who is could be? As long as its not a right back I'll be happy. Actually to tell you the truth, I hope its either a centre forward Adam Le Fondre or central defender Matt Mills. Am I being too expectant? As reported yesterday Gwen Williams has been placed on gardening leave. It will be interesting to find out the why, and whether a replacement is already lined up? Williams came in for criticism from ex-Leeds boss Neil Warnock, who claimed in his recently-published autobiography that he “never did work out what (Williams) role was” prior to his sacking in April. Paul Connelly is weighing up a move to join New York Red Bulls. Is the standard over there that different??? Bucks told us a story yesterday how he almost got chucked out of Herefords stadium last night, only for Gwen Williams to save the day. Todays question to everyone is :- Have you ever been thrown out of a game. When, why and how?
Morning Elland, morning all. Williams on gardening leave is just to allow time for both partie to come to an agreement over compensation. Maybe BMD will bring in his own talent scout. Or maybe the general feeling is now that as the financial ship has been steadied & the academy is making progress in supplying players for the development squad/the 1st team, we don't quite have the need to scout the planet for as many players as we might have needed in the past 5 yrs. Why would Parker drop a division? He's still got England ambitions & can more than do a job at any level, least of all the championship. Were QPR to get him, they would almost be a nailed on certainty for at least top 6 if not auto. On Connolly going to the US, the standard is so low that he would easily fit in. The lifestyle wouldn't be that shabby either.
Heard a rumour that I cannot sustantiate that Lorimer has been told to stop writing for the YEP or he will lose any official capacity at LUFC. Hopefully the YEP will then get Dom back scribbling and start paying him for doing it!
Something I forgot to mention, I nearly got thrown out of the away fixture with Leicester last season. A mate of mine, a Leicester fan, got us tickets for the game. No surprise, I was sitting with a load of Leicester fans, and to be fair I left my Leeds shirt at home. However, I did wear my Leeds wooly hat as it was cold. Gestapo branch of the Leicester stewards almost threw me out. But fortunately, we agreed that I wouldn't jump up and down if we scored, which we duly did a few mments later. Heyho, are stewards that stupid, or was it just this chap?
There have been plenty of games recently, I wish I'd been thrown out of With luck this season there will be plenty I'd wished I was there for. Williams is another Bates arsewipe, who did nothing for the club. he'll be gone shortly and BMD will be using his own network of scouts. BMD is a top scout himself and knows everyone in the game, even Graham Carr who can brag about being the top scout around. He will know of little gems who the barcodes dont want, but who would fit in and do a great job at ER. I said on another thread yesterday that this week has been like watching an action movie. The hero gets battered all the way through the film and then in the last ten minutes starts wiping the bad guys out. Blood, gore, explosions and bodies everywhere. GFH took revenge on Bates, Harvey, Williams, spent some cash, love it now get rid of Lorimer
While I hate what Lorimer became, his drinking and gambling habits made him easy prey for the manipulative Bates, I am willing to cut him some slack based on his playing career and hero status. He was never the brightest and when Revie converted him from inside forward to winger he suddenly thought to take men on, something he'd hardly ever done as a number 10. Just a little insight into the intellect of a talented if not too bright footballer.
I was there for Lorimers debut and he was always a big hero of mine. Later on after he retired I had many hours playing snooker and drinking with him at the sports club he was running on Hunslet Road. Great bloke, great company etc. But the stance he took 8-years ago when it was obvious Bates had corrupted him or had something on him ..... Its been a long road of Pete hanging out of the back of Bates that has damaged him in the eyes of many of us
Morning all I'm glad that Williams has been shown the door, another one of Bates' payroll cronies gone. If we do get another couple of faces in today I'll be more than happy. I know we've been linked with Mills, and maybe it's my Bates-era scepticism sneaking in, but I can't help but think that one is a bridge too far for us. As for QPR and Parker, Tony Fernandes will never stop throwing money at his problems. Even though the bid is reasonable money (around £2m I think?), the wages will be high. Someone should show him the recent history books of Leeds to point out that's not always the best way forward I've never understood the hype around Parker though, he's a good workhorse but for me it stops there. I'd still be shocked if he dropped to the Championship, but I never was sure why he was seen as the answer to England's CM and Gerrard/Lampard woes.
Morning!! Two more signings? Could be anybody at this rate, given up guessing, like McD to surprise me. Lorimer was paid by Bates to be his mouthpiece, thinking that Leeds fans would believe anything a Revie Legend said. That went well. I don't even bother to read anything Lorimer says today because for me he lied too often, even if it was scripted by Bates. Time for Ben Fry to go as well. If QPR continue down this road there's an epic fail waiting to happen. This is a very hard league, and signing Prem players guarantees nothing. Wolves came down with a good squad, look what happened. First season promotions don't just happen, and QPR are a ticking bomb because they don't pull massive support and as it stands they are in the red with their huge wage bill. Bumpy road ahead ...
I'll settle for Ben Fry staying if it meant I didn't have to listen to Eddie Gray on LUTV as a comentator anymore. I have to do a bit of public speaking as part of my job. But if I was as bad as EG, I would have been either sacked or sent on a course until I improved. Great player and a genuine legend on the pitch, 'kin useless as a presenter off it. With all these new signings tomorrow's game is going to be interesting to see how BMD approaches it. Clearly most players will only get a half, as they build up their fitness levels. But will he play footy on the floor throughout or will we see a bit of hoofball? Will all the kids - Dawson, Poleon, Thompson, Taylor - be given a chance to show why they should be fighting for a place in the first team/Development squad or sent out on loan to get more experience? Will Ashdown be able to push Kenny out of being 1st team goalie? What formation will BMD adopt 1-9, 443, 451, 4231? & as the season is only a few weeks away, what happened to the summer and when will we see the first flakes of snow now that winter's on the way?
Morning all Trojan horse anyone? Bates, Harvey, Williams out then moneys being spent? Has the supposed rich investor come back to the table now Bates & co are out of the frame? There was a rumour that the original investor pulled out as he wouldnt do business with Bates, now if GFH have just kept things ticking away up to now so he can come back in, its a master stroke. If so, well played Haigh, well ****ing played! Beer garden weather today so I dont know how long I'm going to be around today
"Gwen Williams", has he had a sex change! I think it's fair to say Brian will want to bring someone in in a Technical Director/Director of Football role, as he enjoyed working with one at Reading. Personally I think Gary Mac would be a great choice if he's willing to come back to a club he's managed before. I liked the guy on WACCOE's idea of Haigh and Patel unveiling dozens of Camels laden with cash!
[ Bucks my thoughts exactly. Logic says this to me: Huge investor utilises the services of GFH to front the deal to buy Leeds. Investor can't work with Bates and wants indemnity clauses signing. Bates says no, so investor pulls the plug. GFH think that this is still a massive deal with huge potential, so do it alone and get rid of Bates and cronies. Once deal done go through a bit of financial pain running the club to the summer of 2013. GFH clear the decks of dross and reveal the huge investor is now back on board. Even Bates said that the investor was worth a fortune and had a reputation. Could it be Red Bull. Could we see ER bought back and our new benefactor pumping cash into the club due to the new naming rights for ER. REd Bull Stadium anyone?
BOOM! Lets hope so, although I'm not sure about naming rights especially with RED in it! Voddie and red bull at half time though would certainly get the croud going!
Red Bull rumours are rubbish, based just on the fact Haigh follows a few accounts on twitter (which is because they sponsored him on his Arctic trek). I wouldn't be surprised if some of the richer groups behind IIB get involved in some way.
If its red bull you can guarantee they won't stop at renaming the stadium. I don't want that poisonous brand anywhere near Leeds United
Well it's a moot point anyway because it's not Red Bull. They don't sponsor teams anyway, they buy them outright, and by all accounts they're not in the picture. I personally don't ever see them going for a team in the big 4 European leagues or the leagues below those.
