Outstanding Sooper, I would never have got this one, the Persian Empire c 480BC had 50 million people in it, 44% of the world's population at the time. Took me a few minutes to figure out, but of course population density was hugely focused in the Middle East/ Tigris /Euphrates and northern India at the time, which were all in the Empire. I think it is contentious because the Macedonian Empire under Alexander 150 years later covered all of this area and more, albeit briefly, but the otherwise excellent wiki page on this doesn't give the figures. Over to you Sooper.
I've just looked that page up. I have to say that the Achaemenid Empire meant nothing to me, the First Persian Empire is slightly less daunting. It does show that my guess was pretty crap though!
Name please of this true AMATEUR sportsman: He was a quadruple 'Cambridge Blue', he scored a century at Lords for the Public Schools XI v MCC, he was a scratch golfer, he scored a 147 break at snooker, he won a Wimbledon doubles title, he won gold and silver medals in the 1920 Olympics in the Mens Doubles and Mixed Doubles, he captained Man City playing at centre-half and captained the Full England team as an amateur. He was so idolised after the 1920 Olympics he was invited to Charlie Chaplin's Hollywood mansion where he thrashed the film star at tennis and was then challenged by Chaplin to a table tennis match, he then thrashed Chaplin using a butter knife instead of a bat and when he got fed up with Chaplin's moaning picked the star up and threw him in his own swimming pool. Who was he?...
That would be Max Woosnam. He also fought at Gallipoli in WWI as well as being an incredible sportsman.
From which film does the following dialogue take place? * Clue... It's one of my favourites. * [Marge is interviewing the two hookers whose clients were the two suspects] Hooker No. 1: Well, the little guy was kinda funny-lookin'. Marge Gunderson: In what way? Hooker No. 1: I dunno... just funny-lookin'. Marge Gunderson: Can you be any more specific? Hooker No. 1: I couldn't really say... He wasn't circumcised. Marge Gunderson: [amused by this unhelpful detail] Was he funny lookin' apart from that? Hooker No. 1: Yah... Marge Gunderson: So, you were havin' sex with the little fellow, then. Hooker No. 1: Uh huh...
Assuming I am right...and I have to get of to work ....so an easy (girly) one...what links Greg, Peter Bobby with Marcia, Jan and Cindy
Really? I put the Brady Bunch down as a joke, never having seen the show I was just offering a joke guess. Last night went really well thanks. We're attracting more people every time we do it. Thank you for your material. It was very well received. Which opera features the 'Humming Chorus'?
They were there, but the state/empire of China was much smaller, in the north of what is China today.
OK. A botanic question. which plant ? 1. Has a name which connects it to the Volga and to the people who originally traded it ? 2. Should have frozen roots in winter. 3. Was grown in England more before World War 11 than now. 4. Has been traded for over 3,000 years but used in the kitchen for only just over a hundred.
