If you are paid, you do what your employers want (within reason). We'd all love to get paid for nowt. Everyone is concentrating on the first team (who MP says are doing double sessions)...suspect the others will come in and be allowed to keep fit at some stage. Mauricio said in his conference that they have been told they are not involved in the 1st team and they need to find themselves clubs. It is sad, but not slavery.

The players agents I would think. As I said above, MP says they have to find clubs...not that Saints would find them clubs (that could be a translation issue though). I'm sure the club would facilitate it though as it is in the interest of SFC.

I don't think any court in the world would side with an employer who told his staff to stay at home and wouldn't let them break contract to find a new employer. If they are not to be allowed to train, then pay off their contracts and release them. They are still professional footballers and although they might be getting paid, above all they need to train and get fit for the new season, even if they don't have a future with us. Who knows what the truth is, but if it is the case they aren't allowed to train at the club even by themselves then that's extraordinarily unfair. I guess it will come out soon enough.

It's true tho. They are still getting paid and are still able to train just not with the first team. What's wrong with that? As Fran said all they have been told is they aren't part of the 1st team. We won't know why they are moaning and probably never will, so there's no point in really discussing it.

Realistically, I don't think it would be difficult to find a club to buy Sharp (what happened to the supposed Leeds interest?) and it sounds like Chaplow will be off soon too. Whatever the current situation, it's only short-term as they'll be gone by the end of the window.

Hopefully, they all deserve good, new clubs where they can contribute.

It's not a big deal but, regardless of whether they're being told they can't train, I'd personally want them to come in and train simply because (barring some disciplinary issue we don't know about) there are more positives than negatives to them training.

Positives: the players looking for other clubs are fitter and sharper. This makes them more likely to attract other clubs and/or impress in a trial elsewhere

    Negatives: ???

Decided to put this in here...

A fan bought a shirt with 'Shaw 23' on and someone suggested that won't be his number next season.

Luke then said, "if not I will buy him another one". He may not be the brightest lad but he seems to be a thoroughly decent guy.

For the record, Maya has always been #3, so Luke won't get that, not sure he'll be after Fox's #13 either, so likely to remain at #23 IMO.

Consider the fact that we may get some loot for them, unless they are on a free? However it would not be any good if they got crocked in training and zeroed their value!

Surely unfairly excluding erstwhile comrades would have an even greater negative effect?

I'm sure that there are times when football is a grind, but for the most part if I were a pro footballer, I'd rather be paid 10k a week to train and possibly play in a game than get paid 10k for doing nothing and feeling like a pariah. And that's the choice Sharp and Chaplow appear to be looking at.

I'd be frustrated if I were them as well. And if I were Saints, I don't even think I'd be mad if the two found some bitter humor in it. They're bored, they want to play. Perfectly understandable. They've left SFC out of it so other than a few of us who pay way too much attention to every last thing it's no big deal.

I suspect they have been told not to train because they will be moved in the next few days. Don't really have a problem with that from Saints' perspective either.

Likewise, them not training at all and being unfit will also decrease their value.

... And if some of the posters on here can't see that as being a huge issue then they have little understanding of team sport. It could cause huge problems.

Football can be a very exciting, financially rewarding career that has lots of highs, but the coldness of rejection is terribly upsetting but something that every player knows is just around the corner. Tonight, I met a 28 year old professional league 2 footballer training on his own at our boys teams home pitch. I chatted to him for a few minutes and he explained he was training on his own because he had turned down his latest contract offer; he had been offered less than his last one. Trust me his wasn't 10k a week but there he was down the public park trying to keep fit.

I really like Sharp and Chappers, but as for sympathy and feeling hard done by for them? Bollocks. Life can be tough, but when you are a top level (ish) well paid footballer, you must take the rough when it comes and do it in a professional manner and stop bleating like a baby.

I find it hard to believe some of those players (an ex-captain like Hammond for example) would be too disruptive but if there's a known problem there I'd say that comes under "disciplinary issue we don't know about".

Even so, if you think that's likely to be a problem you can keep them away from the other players reasonably easily by putting them in with the under 21s (where they're naturally outsiders anyway) or make them train in a separate group or something.
