Lost one of our stars to reading for peanuts we are the only club in PL with 3rd rate academy status how do we improve this does anyone know

Cash, I think the Allams said they'd look to invest in our academy if we're in the prem for a couple of years. The current prem money will have to go on player recruitment in the short term and we'll struggle to break even just doing that.
I'll have a look for a source if I remember where I read it.
I was hoping some of prem cash,would be invested in the infrastructure of the club,and that the academy would be top of the list.
Not disagreeing with you KK but all you need is good football pitches and bloody good coaches. We dont have good coaches and never have had. City have a shocking record of brining through youngsters.
We had this on another thread City as a club do nothing in the community to reach out to young kids.
As an idea City should stick 2 of the youth team into each Senior School and get them coaching the kids. Then play tournaments against each other. My lads at senior school and its shockingly bad the attitude to sport.
No loss atm. £75k is good money for a player who has yet to do anything in the gane. Having watched him he is miles away from being good enough for the championship nevermind the PL.
I feel sure the acadamy will be addressed sooner rather than later. He wanted to go - so be it.
I would have thought a few good pitches, and bringing in some coaches would have been part of that investment. Our catchment area is vast,we must be capable of bringing through some fantastic talent.

You need better facilities, including 3G all weather pitches to be able to be, and play at, a higher level.
Brighton are investing something like £22million on new facilities for this.

How did Haile Gebrselassie and David Rudisha become world-class runners if it’s all about facilities?
Gebreselassie – if you watch him run, you will see that one of his arms is bent inwards and it doesn’t follow like a normal running pattern.
He runs as if his arm is in a sling and this is because when he was growing up in Africa, his nearest school was 5km away and he loved going to school.
So how did he get there? He ran – but he didn’t have a schoolbag. So his arm was bent inwards because he was so used to running while carrying his schoolbooks. Every day, he would be running 10km to get to school and back and that is why his technique was different.
It annoys when I hear that a kid ‘doesn’t run properly’ or he isn’t ‘a typical athlete’. Take Chris Waddle – he didn’t look like he could run but he was pretty quick over five or 10 yards but now he probably wouldn’t make it through the system because he doesn’t fit the image.
Paul Gascoigne may have had the same problem. So many academies want the finished article before a player has even joined them – they aren’t prepared to nurture them. If you talk to any old pro from years gone by, they will tell you that most of this coaching is nonsense.

If he wants to uproot at that age after spending 7 years at the club to join a nomark club like Reading (Reading will always be dull, middle of the roaders no matter how they are doing) ‘cos they’ve got a better academy then he can **** off.

Good post. Thats a disgrace about the schools. Ditto the East Riding and Hull Boys.
I'm not having a go at you personally. As i said its historical with City too.
I do go down and watch the youth team and this is where my problem is. I watch, Cracknell, i think booming a ball out of hand or dead ball 70 yards 90% of the time. that single thing encapsulates all what is wrong. Defenders either too fearful or trained to just push up, midfield missed out and a big CF scrapping for a ball in the air.
We definitely need Bruce to take an interest in the youth set up.
Why do they need 3G at these facilities? Shouldn't they be more concerned with playing football rather than ****ing about on their smartphones?
When I was about thirteen one of my coaches (we had three who divided their time according to working hours) got us booked in at Beverley Leisure Centre, with the aim of improving our ball control and short passing. The other two took the piss out of him behind his back for 'thinking we were ****ing Brazil'. I think that sums up the general attitude of those involved in boys football. Anyone who wants to try and instill a bit of skill into youngsters is mocked.
Also, I still can't get over just how few footballers can use two feet. I'm naturally right-footed but equally good with my left (I wanted to keep playing with a groin injury so started practicing with it). The way my teammates reacted when I happened to make a pass or cross on a Sunday with my left, you'd have thought I was a witch

As an example Mark Cullen for the last few games at Youth level was only playing the last 20 mins or so.
This was something he hadn't experienced too often but the coaches knew when he got his chance with the first team it would probably be as sub coming on late hoping to affect the game so gave him a taste of what was to come.
You will see how the lads play through the academy any Sunday down at Ideal we've some cracking players coming through.
