    Rather underwhelmed.

If we can wrap the deal up with the Perch transfer it might make things easier on the £££ front.

Again we go for a cheap option... although he has some experience of the PL and I suppose he is better than Shola....

Just hope we get a decent striker in still.

Extremely underwhelmed. This guy's fast but that's about it. Misses far too many chances. Reminiscent of Martins.

I actually rate him pretty highly. He's very good at leading the line as shown last season when he played virtually all season upfront on his own. He's strong, quick and unlike Cisse he actually brings others in to play.

My one gripe is that he's a striker but always demands the number 2 shirt <laugh>

All depends really. If he was our main striker signing it would be a slight concern. But if he is the experienced replacement for Shola with PL experience then I'd be pretty happy. I think he is a good player who is the type who could do quite well up here. Whenever I've watched him, he has looked to work hard for the team.

That would set him apart from the likes of Shola, Martins, Viduka who just refused to close down etc.

More than a slight concern if he's the main striker we've after. As all things NUFC, it wouldn't surprise, and it wouldn't be the first time the maths didn't stack up (i.e. when we had both Ba and Cisse, we were bidding for De Jong....fast forward to now and it's all about "ONE" striker coming in).

Kinnear has confirmed he's spoken to Kone personally, he said " He's a quiet lad, however I think he was impressed with me and what I had to say, hopefully he'll fit in with the system I'm trying to implement here "

If you had a choice between him and Bent... Who would you prefer?

Wouldn't be delighted with either for us personally.

I prefer him to Bent. Pacey, works his socks off which is good when under pressure and is a more team player. Good 2nd striker to replace Stroller Shola.

It's like a choice between anchovies or tuna on your pizza. You love your pizza, know it needs some more ingredients but the only ones on offer are just fishy.

We are missing a sub-story here, though - we've been allowed to talk to Kone. As in, Joe Kinnear has been allowed to talk to him. The words "done deal" don't spring imminently to mind.

/Happy to have him for £5 million.

Unhappy if he is the best striker we sign this window.

Don't see what people's problem is with Kone, personally think he is a very good striker, who scored more than 10 in the league last year in a team that got relegated, will get more chances at Newcastle and would be a very good signing. Same goes for Bent.

I'd be happy enough with Kone. We need some pace, he's a better option than Shola and he's proven he can score goals in the Premier League in a poor team. I'd be disappointed if we didn't add to his signing by get a decent player in who can alternate between playing striker and winger when the need arises. We're no doubt going to need decent cover for HBA.

Not even a discussion for me. Kone all day long. Bent is very limited, and dictates the way you set your team up. This makes you very predictable and he has the touch of Harold Shipman at times. His all round game is shoddy to be honest. Yes he scores goals (or at least did) but I wouldn't want to pay the price you do in terms of team play etc. If he was sat on your bench, coming on as poacher to grab a goal, then maybe, but as a first choice striker no thanks. You lot absolutely fleeced the **** out of Villa! What was it 18m rising to 24m? <laugh> That's worse than we did Liverpool for with Carroll.

Kone on the other hand, works his socks off, has a good touch, can play right across the front line, and brings others into play. He may not score the goals Bent does (although its debatable if Bent is still capable), but he brings much more overall to the table. I always think bent would be the type who'd be handy to a relegation threatened team (so we might need him <laugh>) where goals are golden, but gets found wanting as he goes up the ladder and you need a bit more.

Well, one player we won't be signing is Nathan Redmond, who's off to Norwich. So far Norwich have signed a decent young winger and a decent centre forward. We're talking to Kone. It's almost enough to make your pi$$ boil.

Seems like your owner isn't done gambling if he's going for Kone, do you even have any strikers who can replace Cisse & Kone come ACON time?
