At ManU, Spurs, etc... there have always been indicators of their relative wealth. One need not need to check. I think what Saints FC 76 is trying to highlight is the complete ignorance of Saints' change of status amongst regular fans. Amongst a whole swathe of fans, pundits, even media, Saints are seen as the perennial titchy club with no money, never mind the fact of the last few seasons success and the people and money that drove it, may have given a small indication that the situation has dramatically changed down here.

The perception that Saints are minnows is fundamentally still out there amongst the ignorant fan bases. Long may it continue. It'll make it all the sweeter when we beat their teams.

 

I very much doubt MP will want talk to much about transfers tbh.

 

That's a serious fee. I'm not sure if Damiao is worth it (I'm not suggestng he isn't, I genuinely don't know) but that could be the sort of statement signing that makes other players and teams realise Cortese is serious.

 

He might not go into too much detail, but he's been much more forthcoming in the past than Adkins used to be, and he's been quoted in interviews elsewhere naming players, so I'd expect a few juicy morsels.

Indeed, think we need another Ramirez-style signing this summer to make these players who consider us beneath them sit up and take notice.

I think he'd be an improvement on Rickie but I'm really not sure he's worth £20m. Still, would be an exciting signing.

 

Yeah he's a very capable all-round striker.

In other news, looks like Honda is going to Milan for around £7m. Bit of a pipe dream I know, but I feel like we've missed a trick there for some reason!

 

£7m is very dear for someone with 6 months left on their contract.

 

Well, Russia doesn't observe the Bosman ruling so no free transfers at the end of contracts.

 

I know it really irks you how others see Saints. Can't say it bothers me much; as you say, let them underestimate us if they want to, and then when we turn them over it'll be all the sweeter.

 

I think most fans with an interest in football, though, know their stuff about other clubs. I too don't really care about who finances our rivals, but I still know about the Glazers, Gazidis and the Malaysians behind Cardiff.

 

I didn't know that, makes sense. Honda not being an EU national can't help either.

In other news, SSN reporting that Man Utd's deal with Thiago is very close to complete.

 

Can't say that it does really annoy me because, as I wrote, long may it [their ignorance] continue. What does annoy me a bit is when professional people, who are supposedly in the know, haven't a much sharper perception of Saints than the average ignorant fan. I all adds to the sweetness in the end though.

EDIT: To be fair to your perception of my annoyance level, Archers, it does boil up on occasion. Generally, the gas is turned well down though.

 

Surprised Barça are happy to sell him. Wonder if they have a Oriol Romeu style buy-back clause in there?

 

Tancredi tweeted last night that Barca have been trying to persuade him to stay, but that was unsuccessful.

 

I don't think they do want to sell him, pretty sure he had a release clause if he didn't start so many games.

 

Yeah it's pretty funny, they had some clause of him playing a certain amount of minutes in a certain amount of games which nobody except Thiago's agents kept track of. If they met requirements his release would be about £70m, instead it's around £18m so obviously teams are lining up to try to sign him.

 

Higuain to Arsenal is reportedly done. Fee of €27-30m. Pretty good signing.

 

Spoke to a Spurs fan in the office who said don't pay attention to anything the agent says as he has been dragging out the saga with Spurs for a long time with mis-information etc...

 

That's my perception too. However I'm optimistically subscribing to the 'silence is golden' rule with Saints.
