I think Micawber was a character in Pickwick Papers? When I was a boy I read Oliver Twist and David Copperfield in quick succession, but nothing of his since.
I think my basic problem with him is that his key heroic characters - Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, Pip, Nicholas Nickleby etc, are all deeply punchable. But his role in popularizing reading, and some great character names, is obviously huge.
So they compare nicely with Barton, Bosingwa and Hughes..... Wilkins Micawber was in David Copperfield, but I'm still trying to find out where Titus Bramble is from though.....
I'll try again. Dombey and Son - 2 Our Mutual Friend Mr. Pickwick Edwin Drood Barnaby Rudge Little Dorritt Oliver Twist David Copperfield Nicholas Nickleby Martin Chuzzlewhit I'll say 11.
Titus Bramble! Didn't he live with the Cherybles (apologies for spelling)? A team of Dickensian type character names....no, I have to work.......Lee Trundle.......The Lazarus Brothers......Ron Springett......Rutter..........Old Mr Burridge........Luther Blissett......
I think I missed Mr. Pickwick the first time. My question: Watford, Rickmansworth, Hampstead Heath, Southampton, Eastbourne, Southampton and Stoke on Trent all have one - but Portsmouth and Doncaster don't, what is it ?
Some gentlemen of my acquaintance will certainly mention their Hampsteads or describe someone as Stoke, but I don't recall ever hearing any of the remaining towns and cities mentioned; is this something to do with either cockney or mockney?
