Yeah I agree 100% with you there tots. Ade is by far a better player than JD but he only chooses to prove it on the rare occasion and never seems interested (his laugh after missing the pen vs Basle ****ed me off to a whole new level!). JD, even if he's not scoring, always looks like he wants to score and gets in decent positions, even if he misfiring he always seems interested to do well for our club and I respect that more than anything. Plus he's always maintained he loves Spurs and I'd rather have a player at the club who wants to play for the club and not just for the money.
Talking of the striking department, I was having a look the other day of players with expiring contracts, there a few strikers that I would have at Spurs as back up to Villa (hopefully) and JD (and Ade if still here): Santa Cruz Saviola Pizarro Saha I saw this info about 2 weeks ago and forgot to mention it at the time so they may have been snapped up/ given new deals but if any are available, surely they're worth a punt as year long option to allow Kane and Coulibaly another year on loan?
A clean sweep is needed with our strikers . They have never delivered consistently and being honest they are far from top draw. Villa has the highest pedigree , age and sell on should not be an issue as his price should be reasonable compared to his talent. Klinsman came to us late in age and my god did he deliver. Better to aim high.
Adebayor really infuriates me. He has all the talent to be one of the world's best - but, his attitude sucks. He makes it perfectly clear that he's only doing this for the money, and unless it's personal - like against the Goons - he really can't be arsed to do more than is necessary. O.k. Maybe he didn't like the role he was being asked to play last season. But, that's no reason to just run around like a headless chicken, just trying to make it look as if you're making an effort.
Santa Cruz was supposed to be joining Hamburg, but his missus blocked it! He's now probably going to Bologna. Or Stoke... Saviola's being linked with West Ham and Cardiff. Pizarro's probably staying at Munich. Saha's been linked with Nice.
Only one of them I'd touch is Saviola and he'd have to be a 3rd choice striker. The rest of them are average and getting older, and you'd really take Saha again? Also about this whole Levy - Perez - Bale conspiracy theory - How would pretending Madrid are interested in Bale, then being told they cant have him and giving up help Madrid "save face"? It makes them look worse. I hate all these conspiracy theories!
Why wouldn't you take Saha as 3rd/ 4th choice? He done pretty well for us baring in mind he came on Jan 31st off the back of an injury, was 2nd/ 3rd choice striker and managed 3 in 9 in the league plus 1 in a cup. In my opinion all 4 (if available) could do a great job for most clubs as a back up striker. All played CL football, won international caps, experienced in their field, can pass knowledge to any youngsters looking to learn... As 3rd or 4th choice strikers they'd be no brainers to have surely?
I would take the risk of leaving them til the last week of the transfer window and then taking one in desperation. I don't see signing one of those early is of much help. Hardly much of a statement is it? Just sends out the signal we are settling for what we can get.
Providing we do sign Villa or a new first choice striker, I wouldn't be fussed at when (or if) a new back up would be signed to be honest. It'd be better to get them early though so they can get used to new surroundings/ players/ tactics etc.
Found just the place for those 4 strikers mentioned, got an extra one in for Bojan an all! please log in to view this image
Thats the key word for me. I'm still not convinced we're close to signing a striker. Also, where is Paulinho? Has he actually signed yet?
There's some suggestion that we're not announcing any signings until the new kit launch on Monday. Can't say that I buy that explanation, to be honest.
That was 2 years ago though, he's ancient now. I'd rather use Kane as a 4th choice striker, as in someone with a future, and some potential value.
How come our transfers always take so long??! It's all well and good advocating getting rid of all our strikers but are there really better out there we have a realistic chance of getting. There aren't loads of good strikers out there for under £20 million waiting to be snapped up! I would definitely keep Defoe and give Adebayor one more season to prove himself.
Probably both on holiday seeing as they were in Confed Cup. I know we can still announce it but it wouldn't surprise me if Paulinho is announced when he's finally holding a Spurs shirt. Same for if Villa signs too. And Halilovic and Jedvaj. And...
Yeah he is a bit past it but I still reckon Saha as a 4th choice is good to have. I'd rather loan Kane than have him 4th choice, he won't see much action to be fair and I think at his age he needs regular games to get in the swing of things. Staying here will allow him to learn from more experienced players but games are what's most vital for someone like him.
In saha's whole career he only reached double figures in the league 3 times. I really don't know what you see in him. He was very average for us apart from a couple of good games. Waste of a squad space - Dempsey would be more effective up front
Saha's finished imo, signed for Lazio in Jan till end of season and was still deemed only good enough for 6 games, goals...nada!. 4th choice barrell-scaper imo SoS.
I thought he done pretty well for us. Scored a few goals and was decent when he had the ball at his feet, held it up well. His goal record in England is better than about 70% of strikers over here. It was only his time at Sunderland, where he was limited to a few spare minutes in a team that was battling relegation where he didn't find the net. Last season we could've really done with him due to Ade's form and especially for when JD's goals dried up in the latter half.
