Having previously confirmed online that he had agreed to join Newcastle, teenager Olivier Kemen travelled to Tyneside on Wednesday to begin life at his new club.

The Cameroon-born striker/attacking midfielder turns 17 this month and is a French youth international. Having spent the last two years at Metz, the French side will receive an undisclosed compensation fee from United.

The hair tends to make him look a lot taller.

Not this time. Every report says striker, but Philipe Auclair (French journo) says he doesn't know why everyone says he's a striker, he's a defensive midfielder. UEFA's official site has him down as a midfielder.

So is this the signing by Friday that JFK referred too ? If so whilst he may be a tidy prospect for the future, it's not exactly exciting news, is it ?
Plus the fact it was announced before the "Friday Announcement" making it a "not Friday announcement" does that mean we are still going to get someone "over the line " by tomorrow, or is that me being "deluded" again.

Facts were Joke claimed he was going to get the first transfer in before Friday. As we all know, if Joke says it, it has to be true. Shame on you for holding out for "exciting news".

He's highly regarded in France, a powerful midfielder with good vision and an eye for a goal.

How long before we can field a team with 1 player from each of the clubs in Ligue 1?

He looks a cross between Balotelli, Tiote and Bigi.

I'm sure that once he's learnt his trade better and improves over the next few seasons, we'll see a few on-pitch cameo's and then a transfer to a 'big' club.

While this transfer makes sense in the money-making stakes, the Kone deal really doesn't.

I realise that Joe Kinnear, (in his infinite wisdom) has seen that Newcastle United is short of strikers, so he has seen one on the tv (during the FA Cup Final) and thought: "I could buy him as a striker".

    Utter genius all-round I say. <ok>
