Anyone who isnt happy about how things have gone is being silly. I am sure we would all like to have a quality striker on the books right now but as it is only the 3rd of July no one should be the least bit disappointed.
Obviously I really hope we stay up and I think we will. But if we go down we will have a better squad of players then what we had when we got promoted..we then add one or two and bounce back up grabbing another 60m. We improve the squad once again...we stay up. Most important thing right now is we do not blow all our money...I'd rather we finished bottom then end up in the **** like last time. Anyway, plenty of time yet..I am sure Steve Bruce and the Allams will sort out a striker or two and we will finish 15th in the coming season .
If you seriously think they would TRY to get relegated, or that anyone on this board is suggesting that, then no, you don't see and you will never see.
the teams that are going up, have momentum on their side, That alone should keep them up for the first season. The 2nd season is when teams get found out. THAT is when promoted teams seem to relax and stop trying as hard as they did in the first season. Hopefully AA will invest more and more and not get bored.
Throwing money around is no guarantee of success and we have done some very sensible business so far with more expected to follow.
Anyone complaining about the amount of money spent is a frankly ****ing ******. We could've spent £5m on Mcgregor, would that have made you more happy? Are you annoyed we got him for the quoted £1.8m? Look at Swansea signing Michu vs DQPR signing Samba or Reading the Prog bloke whose name I cant spell. Do you think Swansea fans are now thinking "Grrrr, I wish we'd spent £5m on a player who didn't score rather than the paltry amount we blew someone all the big clubs are now sniffing around". I despair at times, I really, really do.
what a daft post, the club and Brucie have been absolutely perfect in the transfer market imo. I don't think we should be spending £5million on Austin as he is unproven and we shouldn't rush negotiations. I think everything is going smoothly and expect us to have an amazing team before we start. The back 5 is sorted, possibly need one CM/CAM and the up top and we'll be good to go.
Like I said on another thread we have the GK situation sorted and that is the main problem we have had. Aluko up top should be enough with Fryatt. I am not 100% on Fryatts ability in BPL though(he seemed to have found his level in NPC and even then he seemed to struggle). Does anyone know if we have a chance of getting an Egyptian back? Im hoping Gedo will be able to make the step up, we still have big Nick so all is not lost.
I meant to start with, we have BIG Nick (IF you read the start of the next paragraph, I said that I don't rate the Fryup, NPC is his level... If not theres League 1)
Anyone moaning at what SB has done for us so far in the transfer market is delusional... He hasn't even tapped into his contacts for loans yet.. if you believe half of what he papers write (which I don't) then he has made a couple of bids for 2 strikers that potentially interest him at the right price. He will have many other striker options that will start to emerge now that clubs are back in training..
At the moment I'm pretty happy about who we've signed so far - bearing in mind it is only the 1st week of the transfer window, and I'm certain Bruce and Papa Allam have their list of targets they are working through. So can we wait until a few more weeks until we start whinging on about who we haven't brought
Everyone loves a bargain. When you have a relatively small budget, you force the best out of your manager. They have to look that little bit further and that little bit harder. You tease out those moments of ingenuity and inspiration that you might not otherwise get if you are simply able to lump large sums on a couple of players. You get more creative. Bruce will sort us out, no probs.
We've done great business so far and I expect us to do more great business, I can't see why anybody would be concerned about the way we're going about things at the moment.
I agree so far the signing have been excellent, nice to see also SB not rolling them all out with a press conference unlike the PB/PD era.
I just had the image of a player running round having been chopped in half at the waist, I bet he'd still get more game time then Bullard did
It's safe to say i'm sure we have a lot more money than we're letting on, but why go spend loads on players because we will then be known for it so clubs will hold us for higher fee's...i think we're going around our business better than the other two who have gone up and some of the lower league prem clubs. Plenty more time, and i can see 3/4 more signings, i imagine Brucie can spend big on a striker
I think we have done OK so far but if you think one or two strikers can do a job for us I wouldn't risk losing them for a few £100k. It seems as if anybody suggests a good striker is worth paying £6m for then some people wet their pants and act hysterical. We paid £2.6m for a striker who couldn't perform in the Championship. Should we buy another at that price plus wages or should we pay a little more for somebody who is more likely to be a success? We all know that throwing money about like QPR doesn't guarantee success but I can guarantee that being scared to pay for Premier League quality players will result in relegation. At present Crystal Palace seem to be using that model. The more we concentrate on not getting good players then the more we will have to pay wages to players to convince them to take the risk to come here. I think it's common sense to get players who are Premier League quality players and nobody is suggesting that we spend £10m on a striker but if some moron thinks he's making a sensible point when he says "We could've spent £5m on Mcgregor, would that have made you more happy?" shouldn't mix with intelligent people because he clearly is limited to childish comments. Steve Bruce has a lot more knowledge and experience than the Brown/Duffen combination and I am sure he will do a better job. Somebody said: "I don't think we should be spending £5million on Austin as he is unproven and we shouldn't rush negotiations." My view is the only proven striker who may come to City would be Bent and we'd have to spend a lot getting him. All other strikers we may be in for would be risks. I'd rather pay £5m on a player that Bruce wants than pay £4m on a striker just because he is cheaper. I would recommend that some of you reduce the hysteria and increase the logic.
Who is out there other than Bent? Cardiff spend £7.5m on a player I've never heard of. I suppose there's players like Crouch but football seems to be only a part of his priorities nowadays.
