Interview now of the OS; http://www.watfordfc.com/news/article/130703-mcgugan-reaction-893133.aspx Some good stuff in it... especially our style of play attracting him to sign for the club.
The views on McGugan on Forest boards are mixed. I can't help wondering if he is an example of the Pozzos viewing players as commodities. He plays well for us in his first season and we then sell him for 600k plus. A nice profit before he shows the lazy side of his character that Forest fans describe.
should be a win - win then, yeah? who would you rather coach you... Billy Davies or GFZ? Davies is a known disciplinarian, may not suit Lewis... and if you can't lean under GFZ??????
Hard to interpret what just using a symbol without any actual words is supposed to mean. IF meant a criticism, wasnt a pretty awful display at Wembley ? Even the most blinkered would find little to praise on the day it really mattered. If I've misunderstood - explain better!
Careful NZ coming on here with your owners of the club and commodities inference. Such remarks not liked by some on here, even if evidence suggests you're probably quite correct. And lets have no suggestions that theyre only here to make what money they can out of it,so maybe only for the short term.
I think most Watford fans realise the Pozzo's are here to make money... but the only real way of making money is through investment and getting to the Prem. Looking at the Udinese model, to buy young, develop, and sell high, you can't really see them changing that at Watford. I think someone has previously stated that they have made about £120m in the last 3 seasons, but while doing this, they have also kept Udinese competitive. It will be a lot harder for them to make Watford into a top 6-8 team in the Prem, but they also know the rewards if they do. The money is a lot higher in the Prem so alhtough they will still sell if a great offer comes in for a player, they may not need to sell quite so much! It does mean that if they want to make money out of Watford, they won't be here for the short term. If they stick around and establish the club in the Prem, they could make a lot of money for themselves!
I think the difference between the Pozzos and previous administrations is that the Pozzos want the club to make money, but make it the right way. Like Kev said, they will make their money in the transfer market and by making the ckub successful. Not like previous owners who were looking to make money by hook or by crook. They realise that they will only get a return on their investment if the club is successful and financially sound. So for them to earn a dime they have to spend a few dollars and help stabilise the club. But, they dont just throw money at it like other teams owners, they are smarter and realise that if they did that the club becomed reliant on them whereas they want the club to be self-sufficient. If the project doesnt work this year, we wont be laden with high paid prima donnaswho we cant shift, and so the club wont be in the sort of situation that the likes of Qpr are in.
I imagine anyone who buys a football club to make money is aware of the risks involved. It's easy to see why we might take heart from the way the Pozzos appear to be conducting their business in Watford so far. I'd also assume their interest depends on targets and their own measures of success. If they don't reach these in the time frame they've set themselves, I don't suppose they will be sentimental about subsidising an unsuccessful project. I want to remain optimistic, but there's always going to be a streak of realism somewhere in the background.
Oh all right then, I'll bite, just for you. Mark the Horn posted something positive about our new signing Lewis McGugan and the way GFZ will handle any 'attitude' and I gave it a thumbs up. You responded in your usual, so it seems to me I'm afraid, demeaning, patronising and glass half empty way - hence the It was not your criticism of the Wembley performance that prompted my response, it was that you raised the issue at all. Yes it was a rubbish day all round - out-played on the pitch and out-sung off it - but both issues have been (are being) addressed by the Pozzo's, the club and the fans. We move on. Had they not been then I would join in with you in criticism, but your post was an unnecessary statement of the blindingly obvious with only the most tenuous link to the topic of discussion: namely signing a very good player. Capisce?
Absolutely spot on Fez...lot's of slagging off of our club, but not backed up by any facts. I would love to see some examples of what Reading are doing SO well compared to Watford. But it will never happen...
Wearing Yellow, its really not good for the image I think you're trying to create - all this corresponding only through a third person. I promise you, I'm really not frightening ! Flattering to be asked(even if not directly) ,but you can really see for yourself what Reading are up to, decent stadium, tend to buy players outright , dont continually loan out, have a clear idea where they want to go. Their owner may be Russian, but believe correct in saying is an actual fan. That should be enough to be getting on with for you. Before you come out with any silly Beds retorts (maybe via the Middlesboro pages as you dont deal direct), I have absolutely no allegiance to Reading - as a local obviously see whats going on. I am actually and always will be a one club person, just dont happen to like whats going on(or not) at the Vicarage lately. That is allowed, and actually believe its quite healthy to question things, will admit likely to give up on them though if they're only going to be a wheeling /dealing club in the future. That should make you change your ways Pozzos ! Cheers Matey ! Fez, did prepare a response to you but somehow it got lost in the system.Turned out to be a bit long, and I'm not the quickest on a keyboard (am a half decent Drummer though although I say it meself)...get the impression you wouldnt be that interested anyway so I'll spare you a retype- unless you beg !! Got a glass of Guiness waiting-can you believe its half empty
Dear Old Nick, Have to say its a bit boring reading your usual spin, may i suggest you start up your own thread where any of us who want to read your continued down beat comments may go to and those of us who don't are sparred them.It is healthy to look at things from both sides of the coin so to speak but you appear to only look at things negatively, i can't recall the last positive thing you said or suggested in which case you seem to see things in only one dimension. Thank you. And you mention you do not like the thought of Watford being a wheeling/dealing club ? it begs the question as to why you have stayed with them so long as in my 40+ years of following them thats exactly what they have been. Enjoy the evening Nick.... its sunny
Well Nick - As usual a lot of generalisations about Reading. Yes they have got a nice out of town stadium, but it's a soulless bowl just like all the others. By what measure do you consider the new owner a "fan"? - just because he brought the club? But as you state "believe correct in saying" - so you don't know and of course no facts behind it. Of course Reading loan out players, how else will there young players get experience? Suggest you check their website and look at some of the player profiles and see where they have been - but that would involve real facts and not your usual prose. You have never ever said one positive thing about Watford in all the years that you have contributed on 606 and not606, you just rattle one about the glory old days. That is why I will never respond directly to you again - but I will make the same sort of sniping comments that you do. Let's see who gets bored first...
Gawd knows why I'm 'writing' to you while theres an important Rugby match taking place-but you may be missing me. Sorry but you do say some silly things,I do read, hear things on local radio about RFC but dont always take it in as not a fan. I'm pretty sure I heard that their new owner was a FAN before taking over the club ...I dont do the 'I Know'Whats Happening' scribings you'll read on here by some over things like signing of players which invariably come to nothing.I'm a little more modest and use expressions like 'I believe' but maybe you prefer the clever dicks. No, I'm not gonna trawl through countless pages as examples of these people. If you read others and not just concentrate on yourself you must have seen 'em. Will agree about Madjeski Stadium, have only been inside when they've played WFC, but is 'orrible and wouldnt like to sit in it every week ....but it is COMPLETE !(and apparently will be enlarged if they get back to the Prem.Loans ? all clubs loan players in/out....but how many in the numbers this club have done lately ...no not gonna dig out exact figures -dont need to its obvious As your Stalker (you wish!) have realised dont know much about YOUR views on the club. 'Not' must have been invented to be a football forum, you and several others use it far more as a 'Facebook' type thing where you can talk about your lives(more important to you perhaps?). Think I can say I am more 'on subject' then. 'Glory Days' comments lead me to believe you do selective reading. Events like Wembley 84 were really something of course, when you're a WFC fan a FA Cup final involving them was something you'd never imagine being there and seeing.I got just as much tho out of encouraging them in the struggle days in the depths of Div 4, as it was then. The club will no doubt be pleased that I will approve more of 'em if they make these permanent signings(suppose I have to explain thats tongue in cheek), but you may still have to somehow manage without me for much of the coming season. One Watford thing you DO talk about tho is what a good away game attender you were last season(seemed to increase during the particularly good run) I will be keeping an eye on your participation this season should they not be as successful. I may have to come back and tell you about how I kept going even in non-successful times. I'm sure even you will excuse my lack of 'live' support at games these days. A Good Summer To You and All The Lower Types In Your County Its Been Great To Chat but Must Go
