Gervinho may not be joining us

    "It is a choice that I respect, although I wish he continued the adventure with us," said Garcia, who added that Ivorian striker Gervinho would not join his Lille team-mate in moving to Tyneside, despite recent speculation.
    "The only one who can leave is Yohan Cabaye," said Garcia.

    I knew he would not join us but you never know. Unlikely after reading this.
    Good news for Leazes but not for NUFC. :(

    Thank god, didn't want him from the start of the rumours...hopefully this will put Gervinho rumours to bed and we can concentrate on getting excited about Gameiro's arrival!

    Is this not the same quote that was made after the Cabaye deal was announced? The Lille coach didn't say 'Gervinho would not be joining Newcastle', he said that nobody else would be leaving Lille generally.

    Yeah, this was announced after they won the title and Cabaye said he was away. The manager said no one else will be leaving but that's probably just him covering his own back. When Gervinho does leave, which he will but not necessarily to us, the manager will look better in the fans eyes and he'll probably emphasise that he wanted to leave or it was the boards decision to let him go etc. Similar to how Carroll left I suppose.
