I shudder to think what top retired police have got on the peccadillos and taboos of senior politicians and judiciary, and how much Murdoch has up sleeve even now. I totally agree mate, i'm sure there'll be a warm welcome waiting for him no matter which nick he ends up in.
Whether or not he ever gets sent down is probably dependent on what dirt he has on others. This fella has been connected to the top levels of government and the media for a long time. If he's pulling the old "if I go down you're coming with me" trick you can bet he'll find a "favourable" judge from somewhere.
This the problem is systematic cronyism and dirty games from just above the bottom tier of authority right to the top of the pile. Though one might suggest that he keeps his mouth shut about what he knows as he will be looked after in other ways even if he has to serve some sort of soft sentence, which he won't. Don't bet on this guy doing any type of stretch, he was doing what he was told to do by his superiors in each and every instance. Chain of command is no excuse but the buck does not stop with him and he will take the fall for those above him as he has much to gain\retain by keeping his mouth shut. if you are an officer in the middle of a pile of **** like this, be it Army or police or in a corporate environment what do you do? As seen all too clearly those who blow the whistle get screwed for revealing wrong doing. For an police\politician\soldier to do the right thing it often means sacrificing his\her career and sometimes their whole life is **** canned even though they did the right thing.

No of course not, but we are not in the game, and neither would an unconnected rank and file get away with it either. My point is that it's career suicide and thats the game, want a career, make x y and z happy, if x y and z aint happy you're screwed. We all know many yes men who are useless but tow the line and keep the boss happy, **** actual performance, just tick those boxes you will do well. There has never been one law for all. You get caught avoiding tax, jail, a top level banker won't nor a politician or top copper. You shove a man to the ground in the street in an unprovoked attack and he dies, you'll get done for manslaughter at the least, PC Simon Harwood, now even an assault charge. You shoot an unarmed man and riddle him with bullets, life term, if the police do it as with Jean Charles de Menezes, and then blatantly try to cover it up by releasing statements saying had a big coat and wires sticking out of his coat and he fled and jumped turnstyles at the tube station which were all lies concocted by the police until video evidence proved them lies no one faced charges, a man slaughtered in full view of the commuting public and not one charge faced. Betteson is just part of the problem, a problem that exists in every police department corporation government and military. Pretty much a fact of live.
