Sky have suspended all bets on Scott Parker joining us after a string of heavy bets were placed.

Looks like it's done. Good signing in my opinion, he's still only 32 and doesn't stop. Hopefully he stays fit and he'll be great.

Agree, good signing. All we need now is to hear some news about the dross leaving - Boswinga, Mbia, Ferdinand and Barton

Parker = Park = Pensionists. Would be another well past his best player. Looked like he'd stopped last season, injured a lot and off the pace both stamina and skills wise when I saw him play.

If this deal goes through then Redknapp must be confident of shifting Granero, and I expect maybe one more centre midfielder will depart. Whether that's Park or Faurlin remains to be seen.

I'd love is to get Parker and Dunne in on suitable contracts. Critically, we lacked leaders on the pitch last year. Players who would not lie down when the going got tough. I don't want another 'dads army' squad either, but there has to be a balance of experience and youth. Parker is a battler, he will scrap hard for the team. He will set standards and demand the same off others. He's perfect captain material IMO.
Cisse, Samba and Ben Haim now gone. If we can get Barton, Cesar, Ferdinand, Granero, Bosingwa and Park off the wage bill then we will be in a good position with the majority of our ******s and under performers gone.

I can't sleep easy until we get a good CB in. Onouha and Hill are a nice combination of pace, power and experience but Hill can't play 46 games. Lescott will soon be available but I can't see him dropping a division.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Diakite and Mbia. If both stay it might release M'Bia to play CB. A fit interested Diakite would be a good addition. A year in the champ to get himself sorted against inferior players might actually work wonders for his confidence.

I agree with with you QPRNUTS. I believe if Parker signs he'll be made captain. Redknapp's made noises about bringing in the right characters and winners, and I believe Parker embodies both of those things. It's good to know that we're signing English players as well, I feel we lacked communication last year and the spine of our team will be stronger as a result.

I don't think he's well past his best at all. He would be the best midfielder of his type in The Championship by a very long country mile!

Totally agree this is a very good signing.

He is the right character to have around the place, and has significant experience. We missed leaders last season, and you need them in the Championship.

Parker, Jenas, M'bia, Faurlin, Barton, Granero, Derry.......think we are covered, in terms of numbers, for central midfield. If they both played as well as they can consistently, I'd pick Faurlin and Granero first, Jenas in reserve (cue expressions of disbelief).

I quite like Parker though, he's like a 1950's schoolboy done as a thunderbirds puppet. Great combo.

If we are looking to sign players to improve positions... Parker could be a good signing. Feel unsure about his fitness though for a season in the Championship. But you can say he is an improvement on all the CM's you list. Just hope that any deal will be a good deal for us.

Well done Harry. I'm not sure Parker would have come for many others.

My sentiments too. Talented, hard grafting player who will command respect if made captain and will play an important part in Harry's objective to get the entire team pulling in the same direction. I'll be greatly encouraged if it comes off

    Evening Standard:-

    03 July 2013

Harry Redknapp wants to sign Scott Parker as he bids to secure an immediate return to the Premier League for Queens Park Rangers.

Parker has been told he can leave Tottenham as boss Andre Villas-Boas attempts to strengthen his midfield.

QPR manager Redknapp enjoyed a close working relationship with the 32-year-old during their time together at White Hart Lane and is keen on signing his former player.

Redknapp believes Parker’s professionalism and work ethic exemplify the attitude Rangers need in order to return to the top flight at the first time of asking and is prepared to meet Tottenham’s £2million valuation.

Sunderland have also registered an interest in the England player but it is believed that Parker would prefer to remain in London.

Fulham are also monitoring the situation and hope Redknapp’s involvement will not prove a decisive factor in Parker’s thinking.

QPR will have to convince Parker to drop down a division — something he was ultimately unprepared to do when West Ham were relegated two years ago — in a World Cup year when he is hopeful of remaining in the England squad for one last major tournament.

Parker is also expected to have to take a small pay cut from his current £60,000-a-week wage at Spurs.

It is possible QPR could offer an incentivised contract based on playing time and with a promotion bonus.

That solution could suit both parties with Parker seeking regular first-team football yet having to prove he is still the same player after several below-par displays for Spurs last season following his return from Achilles surgery.

As others have said a good signing, definite leader on the pitch obviously need to unload a number of others but assume that's already in the works.
