Bent would be a negative signing for me. It doesn't really matter what the club think of him, he starts on a back foot which is always a danger. Whereas Aubameyang, for example, would have thousands buying a shirt with his name on the back and be given pretty much all the leeway he needs, Bent would need to score within his first two appearances else everyone will assume he's as crap as first feared.

Can't quite understand why I'm even reading articles on the likes of Bent, Tomkins and Pilkington. It's like we just got relegated.

20 goals a season in the right set up. He's not the sort that will score goals no matter what team he's in.

You need to basically build a team simply to feed Bent.

I thought Brown Ideye was the most likely to come? I still retain hope that Bent is being considered IN ADDITION to a top class striker, though I am increasingly resigned to the fact that a dinosaur like Kinnear probably thinks he IS a top class striker.

I'm not sure I'd want Bent IN ADDITION to a top class striker, he's had his day and I'd rather have a younger player with a future ahead of him that'll be keen to impress rather than just pick up a pay cheque.

I don't believe it, we've gone from being tactically inept but signing quality overseas players for a pittance, to being tactically inept and signing has-beens for more than they're worth. How could anyone look at our previous model and decide the one thing that needed changing was our budget gems transfer policy?

To be fair, we should wait and see what happens. I don't recall any club in the history of the world asking its' fans "well, whaddya think of this guy?" before splashing the cash. But as I've said, it would be staggeringly inept for "the board" to sanction such a mind-numbingly unambitious deal with all eyes upon them. There's got to be dozens of better options than Bent.

Spot on. We set up the team for him and he got 24 goals in the season when the LFC beach ball was our joint 5th highest scorer with Jordan Henderson (ah, the memories...:)).

Never a bad thing to have a poacher in your team, but he's not what you want when you need a player.

If he was the player he was with us Villa wouldn't be letting him go. If he's not knocking them in he's doing nowt, because that's all he ever did (i.e. score).

I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole now. If you do sign him, he'll come over all "NUFC are a big club" and score a few, to get the fans onside. But a few weeks later you'll be getting all misty-eyed for Shola!

Think he'd be a decent signing for £5m if you can get him to drop his wages a bit.

Shouldn't be a problem if he harbours any ambition to get to the world cup!

Unimaginative signing, a bit like our manager seemed last season so maybe it will be a match made in heaven
