Scholes was good at passing, but not so good doing the other things in his gameplan can you agree?

Gerrard can pass and also score more in the net, who can forget the champions league final in Moscow???

    NOT ME <party>

Scholes could pass and score, he had vision and intelligence. There was only one thing Scholes could not do and that was tackle.

    Scholes total 676 appearances 150 goals. England caps 68 - 14 goals.

    Gerrard total 559 appearances 146 goals. England caps 89 - 19 goals.

Very similar stats however Gerrard often plays as a second striker hence the higher ratio of goals scored while Scholes is a better passer and striker of the ball.

Simple really, Paul Scholes was better.

Scholes has scored more goals from open play than Gerrard, has better vision, better passing, and can also dictate the tempo of a game. Gerrard runs around a lot, and has been sent off more times in the league than Scholes, despite Scholes being one of the worst tacklers of all time. Gerrard's probably better than Lampard, but behind Scholes <ok>

And yes, who can forget the CL final in Moscow. The one United won :D

Obviously United fans will say Scholes was better and Liverpool fans will say Gerrard is better...

Be good to hear some unbiased opinions.

My personal biased opinion is that Gerrard is a better player in all departments, and has so much more of an impact in games than Scholes does. I'm not knocking Scholes as clearly he has been a fantastic player for you lot, however, surely Gerrard edges the argument?

As a neutral, I have to say Scholes. I don't think it's even comparable. Scholes is superior in almost every department.

Gerrard has only been sent off one more time than Scholes in the league but Scholes has been sent off more overall and has received 87 yellows as opposed to Gerrard's 47 so not entirely true there :)

    As opposed to Frank Lampard

Total appearances 705 goals 210 England Caps 85, goals 21

Scholes and Gerrard pale into insignificance in the presence of the master.

But Gerrard and Scholes can pass the ball. Lampard cannot.

Well Scholes and Gerrard are the best two English midfielders of the last decade so it makes sense to compare them. Keane and Vieira were more defensive midfielders, so it's harder to make the comparison, and Beckenbauer beats all of them hands down! Scholes vs Fabregas would be an interesting debate to have in a few years, provided Fabregas stays at Arsenal of course.

Its not even a debate so the thread needs closing.

Gerrard isnt fit to lace Scholes boots as a man or a player.

As for Lampard. Hes good, better than Gerrard as hes much more of a team player where for Gerrard its often about personal glory. Lampard would do fine at another club where Gerrard, especially at a club bigger than Liverpool ( many of them ) he would be a mere piece of the jigsaw not the whole bloody thing.

Scholes however has lost more ability in his career than Gerrard and Lampard ever had.

Now I wouldn't argue about the lad maybe having more ability but all round I'll stick on my choice Frankie Boy who for me is the best midfielder of his time.
